I have been working with cars both profesionally and as a hobby for as long as I can remember. I have lost count of the number of cars I have restored or modified.

I am on my third kit car, the first a Dutton Sierra, then my V8 Nemesis and now our T5 Developments Mission which we (my son and I)have just about completed.

I have only been a member of PH for a short time but have been a keen viewer of the discussion and arguments that I find here.

I find some of the arguments very boring and self defeating in as much as much as they achieve very little other than to get peoples backs up which is why I have avoided commenting a lot of the time(the recent Python thread being a good example).

I think the use of forums like PH should be to promote kit cars not destroy any confidence that newcomers may have. Lets hope that 2005 see an end to these pointless threads. (gripe over)

From my point of view I find kit cars to be one of the best pastimes you can have. It sometimes can be painfull but other times so gratifying. To have your hard work praised by people you respect is for me the most satisfying.

The need to overcome engineering problems and get the grey matter working can also be such a buzz.

This industry is filled with many real characters, some good, some bad but mostly real enthusiasts.

For me they have to be Vince Wright(RVD) and Tom Sadler(T5 Developments) both have given me the products I wanted with the quality I expect but much more than this they have been enthusiastic.

So my thanks to PetrolTed a very merry Christmas to you all and hope to see you at the shows and hopefully at the track next year.

I'd agree with most of that John, with the exception of........

Clearly a serious failure of a car would destroy more than just confidence so this forum shouldn't just be an added advertising medium where manufacturers can get a 'virtual pat-on-the-back' from a selection of 'cyber-yes-men'. We all have to take the rough with the smooth.
I don't want a Cobra, but the recent balljoint thread was extremely enlightening with regard to my 16 year old's Seven-alike and I'm grateful for the advice.

Merry Christmas one and all and here's to a healthy difference of opinion in 2005.............

Let's leave repetition and paranoia behind!

From the BBC news:-

Hundreds are still thought to be missing from coastal regions and, in Sri Lanka alone, officials say more than a million people have been forced from their homes.

Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga declared a national disaster and the military has been deployed to help rescue efforts.

Grim situation isn't it, but had an e-mail from Floyd this morning which made no mention of it.

Don't know if that's because he's in the US at the moment and doesn't know, but would hope it's an indication that they're OK.

Hi all
Vince and Floyd all ok, but Vince still has one member of staff not accounted for at the moment, several of the staff have lost members of there families, brothers, cousins, parents, sister, The guy that made most of the body shells in the UK lost his home and his sister and brother-in-law, his mother was missing but has now been found ok.

Vince told me that most of the timber shacks buy the railway in Moratuwa just down the road from him are no longer, I had seen all these places when I was there! Hundreds of people lived in them 5 or 6 in a shack, all gone.

He is still waiting to here from all the staff and friends out there as communications in some areas are still out.

All the New Year parties are canceled not a very happy new year in Sri Lanka.

Absolutely Chris. What better time to do it, my donation will be lost in the beating my credit card takes at this time of sending gifts which in this context are lagely pointless.

100,000............... sobering thought.

Or if you're in town you can make a donation at your local Oxfam shop.

Hi every one.
Vince said all the staff are accounted for now! Communications out in some areas still, some of the staff have lost family members, Vince has not heard from his friend that looks after his tea property his family all came from the south cost.
Not sure about them yet, Floyd is trying to help get some medical supplies from the USA as he has Doctor friends there how are trying to help, drinking water is the biggest problem for the victims of the wave.
There was some good news not sure if it was on UK TV that one village they believed every one was lost, they found that 3000 people were ok and had made it to high ground somehow?
