Anyone heard, seen, or driven a LMK 917? The website of this company that build these Porsche 917 replicas is www.project917.itgo.com. The company said, their replicas are exceptionally close to the original 917 in terms of quality, and performance. The car accepts all Porsche engines. They are also working on an in-line 12, similar to the engine used in the 917, and an in-line 8.

The car can hit close to 200 mph with 350 BHP. And the pricing is around 50k USD. I'm not sure if that price comes with engine and tran.

Can anyone with additional information post them here? Thanks.

The website is down so I'm working in the dark, I don't really want to be critical but the claims about quality and engineering equality seem a bit far fetched as does 200 mph from 350 bhp. The only feedback I've seen was negative and largely inconclusive and dealt with a VW engined example.

Incidently Porsche have never made an in line 8 or 12 (or come to that a 6). They have made in line 4s, V6 (TAG), V8, flat 6 and flat 12 and less well known flat 16.

It does say flat 8 and 12 engines were in the originals on the website. What sort of power do you need to get an 800kg car up to 200 mph?

Web site is up now so I can see the beast. Its not the one I have seen previously so ignore my remarks about quality, VW engines etc.

Thinking about speed vs power it largely depend upon gearing but think about the Ultima, GDT70, GTD40 etc, throw in a bit of maclaren F1 and I'd say we are looking at around 450 bhp to hit 200 mph.

Glad to see that the reference to straight engines was a bit of finger trouble.

Interestingly the original Porsche chassis tended to crack, to warn the driver the tubes were pressurised and there was a dash mounted pressure gauge, when the pressure dropped you slowed down, unless your name was Rodriegez.

There were one or two street legal 917s Count Rossi (Rosso)the Martini heir had one, I didn't!

You can find out more information regarding the Project 917; flat 12 and 8 from www.cknet.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13.

The flat 12 is made from 2 x 2.7 litres porsche engine, 5.4 litres. Project 917 said this engine will be a monster...

I wonder will this Leman car with 620-700 BHP be suitable on the streets?

Audi seems just a bit to "pretty" for it really... saw the original Goodwood a few years back... with Dickie Atwood perched on the side of it chatting to people...
