My word is that nice! WCulbert owns this fella : www.freewebs.com/cands/rochdalegt.htm. I spotted this in the insurance thread, but didn't want to hijack that one...

Never seen one before but it sure is nice! How does it drive? What sort of money do they retail at? Did you restore this one yourself?

Amusingly, that thing has Wolfrace Wheels (look to be ~13"), the same steering wheel and similar carpet/switch gear. Builder eh, no originality!

Thanks,
In answer to your questions. I drives quite well. I has the Triumph transverse rear spring but it has roto flex and has been set to a negative chamber so it handles quite well, however I have not pushed it yet.

In terms of price, they have gone up dramaticly. It used to be you could pick one up for about £1000 - £1500, now you are talking £2500 to £5000 depending on condition.

The shell was made by Rochdale Motor panels between 1956-61. They made 1350 of them. They would be built up on a ford pop chassis and running gear.

My car was rebuilt by a guy in Glasgow between 1990 and 97 with Triumph runing gear.

The wheels are Alloy cat super slots I believe.

There are believed to be only 10 - 15 GT's still left on the road.
Thanks William

I'm getting a '404' on the link in the top post, but if it is what I think it is, then there was one featured in one of the classic mags which had a Scorpio 24v V6 and auto 'box transplanted into it. It was a bit swift.

Hi,
The below link should not work;

www.freewebs.com/cands/rochdalegt.htm

The previous link had a dot at the end of it

What magazine was the car in?

Thanks William

It was in Classic Cars (the glossy EMAP version of C&SC).

I love the design of the Olympic, a beautiful little coupe.

I wonder if an updated design of this car, could be as successful as was the original in the sixties.

hi
the moulds for the olympic still exist and are owned by the rochdale owners club, a few years back there was talk of putting the car back into production but the costs involved proved to be a bit too much to take on by the club, the only stumbling block is that the windscreen is unique to the car and the club has to have 10 made at a time, around £2500 last time i think which doesn't sound too bad at £250 each maybe one day someone might have a go who knows?

Hi,
I have just put the car on Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4543503641&ssPageName=ADME:B:LC:UK:1

Selling it to get a Morgan 4/4 hopefully.

Thanks,
William
