Advice needed please
Discussion
OK Guys and Girls just cancelled my order for a Tuscan 2 "S" and am looking for some American big V8 muscle.
It will be a Cobra!
This will NOT be a DIY build.
Lets say my budget is circa 35K
So need some informative advice please.
Cobra's!
The DIY Kit car makes are
DAX Tojeiro,
Credon,
AK,
Python,
GD,
Pilgrim,
Madgwick,
Euro,
Magnum,
Kirkham,
Hawk.
Another?
V8 Engine choices are.
Chevy, Big Block / Small block
Ford,
Rover
Another?
Carbs
Holley
Web
Another?
Gearbox
Haven’t got a clue.
Builders
Sovereign
Dave Brookes
Another?
So what combination would you choose, who would you choose to build it and why have you made this choice?

Two choices....
Either Dave Brookes, (I know you have already had an inital forum discussion with Dave)........
or,
Gardner Douglas......Andy Burrows really knows his onions, (latest fitment choice Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine)...
Nothing to choose there, both excellent reputations...
Colour, for me, Royal Blue with two white bonnet stripes....

No help from me on this ...I know bugger all about Kit Cars.
But would be interested to hear your reasons for bailing out on your order.
I'm sitting on it ..waiting for more info- factory news etc.
You still have the Chim I guess ?..Thing is as they say I really want one..but till things are sorted.. no.

Ok thanks Al..
Big Al,
GD of course with one of Andys LS6 T56 combo's in it - 405Hp and light as a feather!
Next would be one of Dave's Dax's - top bloke and lovely builds.
Next would be an AK - only hear good things about the service.
But it does kindof depend on what you want out of it - go visit each of them and then make your mind up.
If I could work out how to upload a picture I'd post one of my GD (blue with stripes - very original !!)

Al Just read the thread.
Same old stuff ..its a real shame..
You cancel your order, as others have ..I don't even want to go as far as forking out loads of quids for the new Tuscan.. not proved etc
But I still may take it on the nose.. a real sucker for a punch I am. Try and find one thats been sorted out by some other poor sod.
Bleed I might well do..
As you say .."STILL GOT THE CHIM" and I hope to keep it and add one more to the stable.
Best of luck with the Kitty
Regards Phil

If you're looking for a classic Cobra shape, with American V8, you have a number of options and at your budget you are in the top echelon.
GD wont give you the "correct" shape or the "correct" rear wheel wheel offset. As if either really matter a jot. The GD chassis is a delight just to look at however and Andy really should sell clear perspex bodies to show off his handiwork and engineering skills. By all accounts the GD handles just as well as its chassis looks. Most expensive of the "kits" however.
A Dax as built by Dave Brookes will get you just what you want and will save you some cash. An excellent build with classic lines and grut to spare under the bonnet.
AK will build a car to your specification and their service level is brilliant. However I'm biased as I've built one and ordered two more. For your £35k you'd get something that would blow anything else into the weeds with change to spare.
Put a bit more cash into the pot and you could get a Crendon, hand built by a perfectionist, but rather pricy. And the interior is a little sparse for my tastes, but it is authentic.
If it was me, I'd go for an AK, but then again as I've said, I'm biased.
See I've been absolutely no use at all !!
Cheers,
Tony

I'm not a huge Cobra fan - but, that said, if I had the budget I'd spring for a Kirkham. Amazingly constructed (even ol' Carroll Shelby himself buys from them) and you get the bragging rights to say you're driving a car built in a MiG fighter jet factory. Not to mention a genuine alloy body instead of GRP.
Of course, it's not cheap - and if I'm correct in assuming your budget of 35K is in British Pounds, then the kit alone would be around 21K of it. Whether or not you could find an builder to put it together for 14K is something I have no idea about.
OR, you could save on the build costs, and go with Superformance (out of South Africa, manufactured in the same factory as Noble cars) that ships their cars completely factory assembled and painted, just minus engine/transmission.

Hi Tony427 just reading though again.
Ere, what's all that mean then?
All a bit "anorak" I know but most Cobra kits narrow the Jag rear axle to get a deep offset on the rear wheels and GD have made subtle tweaks to the classic Cobra 427 shape,
Personally the GD shape doesnt offend at all but I do like the deeply dished rear wheel of the other makes.
Cheers,
Tony
