I realise many people on here may think I tend to side with Den Tanner and Kit Car when it comes to the many (many) bitching sessions that have gone on.

Some that post (and some that don't) have gone as far as telling me how we are good friends. Not bad considering I have met him once and we have exchanged a few emails.

Anyway this post has nothing to do with that.

I have noticed how after promoting there mag heavily for a number of months WK? is now nowhere near it's 'Biggest ever issue', in fact it is quite small.

If Adam is still posting could I ask why?

I think it is a shame this is happening as by making that little extra effort it meant that there was a little competition to produce the best kit car magazine.

I hope that this will not mean the content (read size) of Kit Car will falter too.

IMHO competition is good, as at the end of the day the customer is the one who benefits.

I don't want this to become a slagging match, I would just like to here some other opinions.

In many ways I kinda hope that the Totalkitcar mag becomes a monthly.

It will be interesting to see how long this thread will run before it gets locked.....

Well, I have been buying both Kit car AND Which kit? (or is it Which Kit car) for several years now....

(imho) Both mags have their merits....Kit car has always been thicker, with far more classifieds, but on the other hand WK has had the more interesting features, is brighter, with better photographs and less typographical errors....

However, I think it must have been a big body blow to Peter Filby when Nigel "detail" Dean defected over to the other side.....

Having lost some of the shelf space on WH Smith's it will be interesting to see if WKC is still in business in a few years time, as it seems to sell around half the quantity of Den's publication....

However, I wish both mags the best, competition can only be good for the readers.....

There, nothing too contentious in that post......

As long as we keep it sensible I can't see why we can't have a sensible discussion.

As you said,

And I'm sure they (the mags) would like to hear there readers opinions

Well, I used to be a regular buyer of both monthlies but had stopped, however in the past few months I've been buying both again and do prefer WKC?, if I carry on buying then it'll probably be that one.

The thing I particularily didn't like about KitCar this month was the way I got half way through and found the contents, editorial & letters pages from Cobra Magazine, made me wonder which mag I'd bought & what I'd got for my money.

Having said all that TotalKitCar is the only one to have got a subscription out of me.

Hope that's not too controversial.

Well that's what Steve Hole hopes too, but as magazine publishing is an expensive and risky business (especially when it's your own money and not that of EMAP, IPC etc) he's wisely adopting the cautious 'slow growth' approach.

Next issue of totalkitcar will be in the shops, which should help improve general awareness. Know sales feedback from Europe where it's in the shops already was good, and Steve's been approached by an American company asking if they could sell it over there, so things look encouraging.

TOTALKITCAR

I rate the photography, colour and general impact that WK? has. The way the build stories are written is improved over some in the last year.

Kit Car I like because of the slightly more technical aspects, more classified ads and (in general) the knowledge of the reporters.

The features in WK? cover a fair few pages. There seems to be a lot of pics and not neccessarily enough editorial. I would like a little more written.

However Kit Car seem to go the other way. More editorial and less photo space.

I think they can both learn from the quality and layout of Totalkitcar.

I have to say I'm not that impressed with TKC....yet.
I like Steve, he's a laugh and even let me win a competition, but I think his strength is the speed with which he can get news out. The mag is, in my opinion of course, padded out with ads and not as good as the other two for articles. This is probably because he's already used lots of decent material on the 'Net!!!

"Which Kit?" continues to produce a great looking magazine, but (how can I put this) if I read an article I can tell you who wrote it without looking for a name. I write stuff on a completely different subject for publication and will do my utmost to avoid cliches and tenuous synonyms, something that some WK? writers adore. I shan't run down all of them, but my favourite is 'bolide'.... Encarta tells me it means 'exploding meteor'. Nice word, just a bit overused in WK?

"KitCar" is well written and interesting, but 'feels' full of ads, more so than WK?. It suffers from a terrible layout.......or something.

There we are, my opinion.
Not an inflamatory comment in it!!! (Hopefully)

So far, I agree with all of these comments, and I'm sure that "certain people" will be reading this and possibly nodding the odd agreement, and taking constructive criticism.

Total Kit car is alright but always preferred Kit Car mag and Which kit is just a nice looking mag with little substance..

My problem is that I have sold my kit car and have emailed Kit Car Mag twice to state that I wish to cancel my subscription and have received no reply whatsoever even though I have received emails in the past from them. Whats going on? In denial over someone cancelling a subscription maybe???

Nobody likes to lose a customer which may explain DTs reluctance to cancel however could the real reason be that sales are dropping like a 'stone'

Last time I spoke to Den he was very pleased with the way sales of Kit car are going, but only he knows the true figures........

Must have been a scare for him when WH Smith threatened to drop distribution though...

No one likes to lose a customer, maybe you are just one of many who are cancelling their subscription OR maybe KC sales are dropping like a stone and as Tesco says "every little helps"!
