YKC Sportscars Limited is up for grabs, no mention of price although you are getting a fair bit by all accounts:

* Traditional range based on Siera's (Roadster, Romero, Julietta, Mille Miglia).
* F27 Range which is bespoke chassis for road/track cars - Caterfield's essentially.
* Trust Electrical - wiring looms, ECU programming...
* Pace Development Project - mid engined based on Fiesta and fitted with a 1.8 Zetec GRP moulds available
* Seats designed for narrow bodied cars with intergrated harness holes...

Reason for sale? The owner has just had his 70th birthday and wishes to retire! This is reported in The MOC mag and it also says you can buy the induvidual items listed (i.e. you can buy the rights to the Pace Development car but nothing else)

My thoughts are regarding the tradtional range - how much of that is going to be any use? They are based on the Siera which are nigh on impossible to find as donors anymore, although parts still exist they are common by all accounts. Then the F27 is a Caterfield look-a-like which I've never heard of/seen spoken about on here or anywhere else - is it a popular kit?

I wish Don well as I've spoken to him on various occasions regarding my car and he is a most knowledgable and pleasant chap but is this a viable business just from the press release? I just hope the Accounts tell a different story to my initial fears.

One this is for sure, I'm getting my replacement running board ASAP and a few other odds and sods that I might need in the future!

ISTR that the F27 was one of, if not the, first bike engined se7ens.

Yes, Formula 27 were one of the first to ofer the bike engine option. I was taken around the Donnington track @ the show in 1998 in the purple F27 Blade car, that's what got me into 7's. I looked quite extensively at buying one, the company originally started off just selling plans then moved into kit manufacture. Had an excellent reputation for handling, decided wasn't quite what I was looking for & bought a Wetfield.

YKC bought the project 2-3 years ago and don't appeared do have done much in the terms of sales or development, shame as the enclosed body 7 looks like an excellent car.

I wouldn't have said that the Sierra is impossible to find, not round these parts anyway. There's always plenty for sale on ebay too.

Bearing in mind the way that older kits with even older donors are still around my opinion is that there's life in this sort of company for a fair while. How about negotiating for the price to include development of another donor?

The reason I asked about the donor was simply I haven't seen a Seira around these parts (Newcastle) for many, many years. They don't exist in the scrap yards I go into either...

Maybe it's just a Northern thing then which is good

Nope, not just a northen thing. The 2 scrap yards I frequent up until about 2 years ago used to be full of Sierras. Now it's Mondeos, Rover 200s etc. Sierras are not as plentiful as they used to be

I personally think the future is taking Mondeo/FWD cars and make them mid engined

so where have all the sierras gone? is there a black hole lunching solely on sierras? does it also eat sierra-based kitcars? phew, relax, mine has a honda engine (but some ford granada mechanicals, oh no , i'm starting to panic, is my baby still OK - she's 500 miles away. . . cheap flights anyone??)

Arrrgh. I've always liked the looks of the YKC traditional kits, but had thought that they really would have been better off based off of Alfa mechanicals (to match the looks).

At least on this side of the pond, Alfettas practically dissolve in the rain, so it would be pretty affordable to find one and bolt the suspension/drivetrain onto a custom tubular frame.
