SYLVA MOJO R1ot
Discussion
I like the Sylva Mojo chassis alot, and with the new addition of a bike engine option, it's really going to make a great track car.
I wonder if it could accept other bike engines, other than the Yamaha R1? How about a Ducati, Triumph, Moto Guzzi, BMW motorcycle engines.
This can really open a new niche for Sylva and the Mojo, and at a 2000 pound price for the kit, it should really be big in the kit scene. I believe Jeremy Phillips has a hit product in his hands.
Wish him the best

Yeah, it looks like a great budget kit, in the best traditions of Sylva, doesn't it?
No reason why most chain-drive bike engines shouldn't fit with minor chassis adjustments.
The Ducati V-twin makes for quite a long installayion, because it leans forward so that the front cylinder is almost horizontal.
Not sure why anyone would want to use Moto Guzzi or BMW - they are both archaic and very unexceptional touring engines - but in any case, I thought both BWM and Guzzi were mainly shaft drive?
My boss happens to own Triumph, though, so if I was to build a Riot (and I'm seriously considering it), I'd probably have to use a Triumph motor. Turning up to work with something powered by a Yamaha unit would probably be a quick way of getting the sack!

I agree, the Bmw and Guzzi are not chain driven.
I took them into consideration, more for their torque figures than horsepower, and for the Ducati you would have to lenghthen a few cm. the wheelbase to fit the front cylinder.
Naahhh, I would go for the Triumph,Honda, Aprilia Tuono, Benelli Tornado, or how about an MV AGUSTA F4 engine? (I'm just dreaming, new bike's are scarce, and used are almost non existent and would be too expensive.)
I must remember to get my sketch book and make a few sketches...............

Why would you want to fit another engine over the R1? It's a great engine and very light.

The R1 engine is a great unit to power the the new Mojo, but in Italy it would be hard to find used, and expensive to purchase.
That's why I would look for cheaper alternatives, but they would still be expensive.
Buying a used R1 bike would put you back at least 7500-9500 Euros, that would be 5000 to 6500 Pounds !!!! a little expensive in my opinion.
Not many R1 have been wrecked yet, so very little chance of finding one cheap in a scrap yard...
Honda's would be cheaper as used bikes, Suzuki and Kawasaki would be cheaper still, so in the end my choice would be related to cheaper engine option.
I will investigate further, but love the concept of this car , I would make a few design changes to the shape, but other than that it has great potential..........

I've just bought a 2003 R1 engine for my Fury build and I managed to find plenty that had been wrecked within a few months of being put on the road. 2800 miles on mine and it cost me £1300 with ALL the stuff required to make it run. Cheapest I found was £650 for a 6000 mile example.
You don't need the whole bike!
