Kit car limbo!
Discussion
Driving around in the westy last night, wanted to get into a business park that was closed with "Security" barriers , drove straight under them . Obviously not designed to keep out westfields. Just thinking if I can drive under a security barrier can I drive under an NCP barrier which is stopping me from parking for free? Got to be worth a try. Anyone tried this? Have a go, fantastic to see other people watching you drive straight under these security barriers.
I've often wondered this but never had the guts to actually do it (CCTV etc).
I do recall hearing the story of a Caterham owner who tried this. He creeped up to the barrier which just cleared the top of the windscreen. Thinking he'd go away with it he accelerated, forgetting his roll bar is a good 5-6" above the top of the windscreen, and smashed into the barrier with it

Here in the US, there is a story (apocryphal, urban legend, who knows) of a 50's sports car owner being chased by the police in their 1950's, ill-handling Land Yachts. Whether Sprite, Midget, TR3 does not matter to the context of the story, just a small, nimble and l-o-w car. After chasing the car around the town for many minutes, the BiB radio ahead for a road block to be set for the towns High Street, with the scofflaw skillfully "herded" into the trap! As the parade approaches the trap, the police are seen to have placed Traffic Barracades (2 3' tall "A" frames w/ 4' top rail) in the center of the street, with Patrol Cars at the shoulders.
Said sports car sails right through the trap without slowing down.
Twice.

Slightly off topic but vaguely related...
My father used to have a Messerschmitt (car not plane) as his daily transport which he used to drive in the summer with the canopy off. The problem with it was that he was practically invisible to larger traffic. This became abundantly clear when in the centre lane of a roundabout a lorry in the left lane started pulling into his lane having not seen him. Faced with the option of being squished twixt wheel and roundabout wall he opted instead to drive under the bed of the trailer and emerge in the lane the lorry had just vacated (this being before side bars were fitted to lorry trailers). Apparently the expression on the truck drivers face when he saw him emerging was priceless.
Great little car (70mph in reverse!) but I am not sure I would risk the urban cut and thrust in one these days.

I've done it a few times in a car park i used to use for donut practise
Another good trick is to drive up to the entry barrier (from the inside of the carpark) and drive as far under it as you can... the long seven bonnet usually causes it to spit out another ticket / open the barrier.
