I had a very enjoyable tour round the Westfield factory yesterday, topped off with a superb test drive in the XTR4. I'm now seriously considering ordering one, as it kind of blitzed the others cars in terms of enjoyment and non practicality.

Has anyone on here got one, got any positive or negatives views about them?

have a look at the Westfield club site. There's someone who's just bought a very nice black one only a few weeks ago.

IMHO you would have a lot more fun in a Caterham than in an XTR4. No doubt an XTR4 is very quick but the mid engine and aero bits mean you can't hoon anywhere near as much without spinning.

I haven't seen one in a test that hasn't broken something as well!

I got put off the XTR2 as apparently they need a lot of attention in terms of servicing etc, whereas the XTR4 doesn't need quite as much technical / engine knowledge.

I occasionally am in Scotland on business, so at that point, it's not too far.

That's not true - it's a very friendly handling car, very easy to hold 3rd gear oversteer.

As to reliability, we've done 1500miles so far, mainly on track and not needed any attention to it at all......

One problem you may find with the XTR's is the amount of elbow room. When trying to put lots of lock on in a hurry they tend to knock against the side.

Also they are quite heavy considering.

Have you thought of an Atom?

If all you want is fun in an impractical way what better formula could you ask for?

Not an issue with XTR4s, you must be referring to early XTR2s.
XTR4s have wider cockpits and a huge amount more elbow room.

They are quite heavy yes, ours weighs 580kg fully fuelled, but is still light enough, without having all the drawbacks abd running costs of the lighter, bike engined equivalents.

Atoms are nice, both are good for impractical, trackday cars.

Plenty of tuning potential for the Audi/VW 1.8T engine in the XTR4. Should be easy to get well over 300bhp for not much outlay
