Anybody know about these?

Had a look over the 2 on the RAW stand at Donington and was impressed. Only problem was I thought they looked incredibly narrow, but sat in one and fitted no problem (much to my surprise!). Talked to the guy on the stand who was friendly and helpful, but trying to do a sales job at the same time

If anyone has built one some info on the cost and ease of build would be much appreciated. Would it be suitable for someone on their first foray into kit cars? I'm not a complete technical nonce, but I'm certainly no expert... Part of the reason I want to build my own kit is to learn

General impressions of the kit and RAW engineering would be great too. I was a bit concerned that I only managed to find 2 or 3 Strikers in my wander round outside and didn't get to talk to any owners on the day... Judging from other posts perhaps I missed them (did stumble into what looked like the GTM owners club at one point tho ) Anyone know anything about an owners club for them... I'm sure I'll need plenty of help from somewhere.

Thanks in advance,

David

Read the write ups on www.totalkitcar.com re Raw Striker, they also did a piece in their last magazine on an orange one. PS Steve's not exactly 'slim' (Sorry Steve if your reading this)

They're bloody lovely. My first kit car was a Striker, but of Sulva ilk before RAW took them on.

I built my car in a shade over 2 months and it went without any jickups. I had a fairly simple Escort/Xflow derived car but I don't see there being any problems with anything more challenging.

I don't think you will have any problems, they are pretty simple to build. Cost wise, mine cost about £6k all in and I have priced up doing one again for around the same money with a bike engine install.

All I would say, there are no creature comforts and it is snug. Make sure you fit and drive a couple before buying but if this is what you're after, go for it.

Cheers,

A mate of mine is planning a Striker build having found this little beauty.

Another line of enquiry might be the Sylva Sportscar Register

If you haven't already figured out the history, the Striker is the se7ven designed by Jeremy Phillips who also designed the Fury, Stylus, Phoenix, etc. So it has a pretty good pedigree!

Thanks for the info. I've read the TotalKitCar online article, think I'll order the mag as well... RAW had a copy of it on their stand, but I didn't get a chance to take much of a look (guess it must be pretty glowing tho).

I've looked at the Sylva Register too and I'm lurking on the Sylva mailing list, there seem to be a fair few Striker owners on there.

The car is going to be purely for pleasure, weekend blasts and trackdays so I'm not overly concerned about creature comforts Performance and particulary handling are my main concerns and the Striker seems to have both in spades.

I'll definitely be looking to test drive one... Probably not for a little while yet as I need to keep saving those pennies for a bit first and I'm not sure I could resist shelling out on the spot otherwise

Thanks again, if anyone else has anything good or bad to say about them I'd love to hear it.

Oh yeah, meant to ask were you practically living in your garage over that time? I'll be restricted to evenings and weekends pretty much and I'd expect it to take much much longer than that.

I've only got a single garage too, is that likely to cause any problems with the build?

I took one week off work and got it on it's wheels including the ally panelling. Then evenings and weekends... no problem.

They do seem to be pretty quick on the track, apparently the handling is pin sharp and they are very light - however I've seen a few pranged and they really don't offer much protection.
So it seems a case of how badly you need the speed.
