sorry, cant find the thread, but a few months ago fuoriserie replied to my looking to rebody my lancia stratos replica, saying that it was not possible. some of you will already have seen my latest sketch of the vojx_alien (apparently it looks like a V...), but since i'm stuck in germany for another few years yet, the design may change.

www.stratossupersite.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=716&sort=1&cat=3018&page=1

so, not to cut the story short, i saw this today - the 5th picture down i think (next to last).

now i may be mistaken, but that looks remarkably like a modernised stratos.

methinks some more sketches are in order.

Just a quote to sort out the huge long urls for you... It messes up screens massively!

Personally I would have said your design reminds me of a more futurist Noble M12 and the "school project" is a similar idea to yours...

I dont recall what I said (it must be age !!) but I remember that I pointed out the STOLA S82 as the STRATOS replacement.

It was designed by the original designer Marcello Gandini for Stola.

www.stola.it

I agree that the rendering shown has quite a few similarities with a Stratos replacement, but also your rendering has a lot of potential....

In fact your rendering is more feasible than the other, because its an evolutionary update of the Stratos.

I would stick to your design proposal, but I'm here if you need..............

Cheers

i had a go at converting the design to my chassis - its not a bad fit, if i move the cabin forward 50cm, add 30cm to the wheel base and replace my Honda V6 with a longitudinal engine/gearbox.

the problem with the Stratos is that although its not tall, its short wheelbase doesnt help when i'm after a supercar look - it always seems to be too boxy, rather than lithe and lean. how would a professional designer can get round that?

Unfortunately you are dealing with a perfect shape for a mid-engine rally car, but not a supercar....

I would not tamper with the wheelbase or anything else, too expensive and time consuming, it would alter the dynamics of the car and would need more development work to put right.

With a few design modifications you could update the styling to a more modern Stratos.

If you want, send me some pictures, and I'll see what I can come up with...

cheers

It's a good drawing, but has that "caricature" look

such designs are always distorted to make them more aggressive, but when you make them to scale suddenly where do you get 24 or 26 inch wheels. in my posted design i have attempted to get around this by making wheel arches that look like large tyres, but this perhaps increases the stumpiness of the enforced dimensions.

mrs vojx says i should never have started the project - for once i agree she may be right

perfect dimensions, but not necessarily appearance

the car handles absolutely fantastically. no danger of changing anything there

a more modern stratos is one thing, but i want it to also look totally unique, once seen never forgotten. that's why i'm aiming for a supercar look, eg Lotus Esprit, McLaren, Diablo, 348.

that could be arranged - i have several hundred photos of the build

First thing that occurs to me is to try and keep the amount of metal over the wheelarches to a minimum, which will visually make the car look slimmer and closer to the ground by drawing your attention to the length of the car rather than its width. (the first Tigra suffers terribl from this over the rear wheels, take a look at one and you'll see what I mean) Also try to keep the overhangs short, which will emphasise the distance between the wheels. It's all optics really

i've got plenty of details that i'm happy with, plus many charactiture (?) designs, but just can't blend them into a whole - it always looks clumsy somewhere, normally the bit above the engine.

i've already removed about 6 inches of overhang front and rear, too much more and there will be no place for the headlamps. but since i want a low front spoiler/dam, a short overhang is vital - currently the ride height is 5 inches front, 6 inches rear. i could drop it to 4 and 5, but then risk frequent damage to the spoiler, but that would help in reducing the roof height which can only help the style i'm looking for
