Hi,

I'm looking to get some custom stainless steel braided brake lines made up for a car I'm working on.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to get good quality lines made up with swaged fittings and preferrably pressure tested?

There seem to be any number of places that will sell the parts for or build lines with non-swaged fittings but I'm really after something a bit more robust.

thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Don't think any braided stainless brake lines have swaged fittings, which is why they won't pass SVA.

Never had any problems with any leaking though.

My Ultima came with them and the brake kit that's being fitted to the front of the car (85 Camaro) has swaged fittings as well. Both are pretty low volume custom parts so I know it's possible...

I believe the only real issue with braided lines on a road car is that it is impossible to tell when the reinforcement has pierced the teflon liner which is a possibility with high mileage vehicles. There should be no problems with low mileage cars. No issues with SVA as long as they are swaged (at least I've not heard of anyone in an Ultima with that as a problem).

Hope there is no issue with braided lines for SVA.

Marlin uses full length braided lines. I am aware of 2 that have passed the SVA.

Could try these links. I am fairly sure Goodridge do bespoke lengths:

I made my own braided hoses for my Ultima.
Passed SVA without comment.

Braided hoses are fine for sva mine passed without comment.

For inexpensive good quality ones try Rally design in kent. www.raldes.co.uk I think.

Interesting to read all these posts from people who passed SVA with braided lines because I'd heard there were problems with them.

Mind you, it seems that some SVA problems can be down to particular stations or even particular examiners.

Anyway, nice to know for the future.
