Well, after pottering around in a 1.4 Fiesta (yawn)since my 2.8 Capri got written off in January I've finally got a 'proper' replacement in the form of a Quantum saloon.

Was looking for a Nissan 200sx but couldn't seem to get near a decent one in my price range - until after I'd been to see the Quantum when I also found the only 200sx I've seen that was actually worth buying. Typical...

Big decision time tipped it in the Quantum's favour on account of it being rust proof and being easier and cheaper to fix if it goes wrong. And it was cheaper. And more unique.

Mind you, does need some work doing to it, such as getting the wipers to work properly, but mostly just general tidying up of paintwork and interior. I hope.

Graham, I thought you had a T70?

What Quantum are you talking about? It sounds like you are after a run about?

You're obviously confusing me with somebody who has money! Possibly Derek Bell who has a British Racing Green GTD T70 (and is not to be confused with the multiple Le Mans winner!)

I'm talking about this Quantum www.quantumowners.com/cars/coupe.shtml (not sure if the pics will show).

Originally launched about 13 years ago and now out of production. Suppose it is a runabout but can't afford anything else. Ain't life shite?

Well there's no rust on it.

It's generally pretty good as far as the GRP goes. Bit of starring on front spoiler, small chunk missing near door lock and two possible gel coat cracks on side (which might just be paint) but that's about it.

Painted BMW M3 blue metallic which really suits it, but sadly it's got a lot of chips and scratches that need sorting out.

Also needs blistering on interior trim sorting out thanks to original grey plastic having been painted black. Either never cleaned it properly or used wrong paint.

Mechanically, several years of getting little use and never going over 45mph (yes previous owner was one of those) means it needs a good service followed by a good blast. Which should hopefully stop it running on a like an old diesel...

No doubt find more that needs doing when I get into it. As you do...

Sorry Graham.

I suppose we can all dream a little.

Didn't get a picture in the link, but I know the type of car you are talking about.

Congratulations, the Quantum has that Lotus Elan front end that really stands out. Very nice car.

I like the car, but the first thing I would do, is changing the wheels to 16 inches, if not 17 .

They would fill the wheel arches better and give the design a more porpouseful stance on the road.

Enjoy your car!

cheers

Yeah Mark, I'm sorry I'm skint too!

Also sorry I just missed out on a Quantum 2+2 that was also (unusually) in my price range on account of it having been stood for 4 years. Now that would have been a nice project to get ready for next summer.

To answer peetbee's question, engine is bog standard XR2 (carbed). Though it might not stay that way...

Looks like the dash will have to come out so I can fix the wipers (loose tube through scuttle). At least it'll give me chance to attack the bubbling paint on the dash and try and sort out why some of the lights only come on some of the time. Dodgy earths probably.

Ah, the joys of used kit car ownership.

Yep, that's the one. Well not the actual car...

As you say, so much better than driving around in a Eurobox. Also quite a bit different from driving a Fiesta as the Quantum sits noticeably lower, as does the driver, which should help the handling.

As it only weighs 760kg a tuned CVH should give both reasonable performance and decent economy too.

If I'm not mistaken, it should be a Figerlass monocoque just like the GTM Libra.

Very nice looking kit when it came out, a modern 60's Lotus elan.

Is it fiber / plastic bodied?[/quote]

As fuoriserie says, it's a GRP monocoque bodyshell.
