Majorly interested in these things at the moment and wouldnt mind building one. Who, if anyone, in the uk manufactures kits or frames? Most seem to be based on the vw beetle, how easy/hard would it be to use other donor cars?

Years ago I built a UVA fugitive using the running gear from a beetle.

The front suspension belongs in the first half of the last century.

UVA became TAG automotive.

If you are able to fabricate steel, copying the frame would be very easy.

The grp panels are very basic.

A purpose built aluminium fuel tank would also be needed.

The GRP panels may look basic but believe me they're not.

It's taken me a long time to make moulds and new panels for the UVA that I'm rebuilding.

That really brings it all back.

My apologies.

Ive been looking at the UVA Fugitives (although no longer available) and love the look without the panels fitted, completely bare.
What sort of performance figures can be expected from one thats based on an old beetle? I just cant help imagining it being very under powered.

The flat four is very light and compact.
Radiators are also cumbersome.

Are you building a fast road or a real dune leaping rail?

Take a look at Edge Buggies in Perth, Australia. They have a full range of Sandrail Buggies and sell the plans for the frames.

Are you planning to drive it on the road? It's going to make a big difference.

I made the moulds just for my own use. I don't make them commercially.

I was staying with Ash earlier this month, well done getting the Megasquirt up and running, have you got it out on the road yet?

Yes. It was out for it's first test run the day after it started and it was already better than the twin carbs.

I've been running it most days and, as I gradually get to know the software better the car improves every day. VE Analyse Live is a useful feature and I'm coming to terms with the acceleration and warmup enrichment settings too.

It still needs to go on a rolling road to fine tune it but it's very driveable at the moment.

Good to hear it is going well John, Dale at Bailey Performance knows his stuff when it comes to the megasquirt. Telford may be too far though.

Nearly, I hear there be dragons close by.
