Hoses, fittings and a pain behind the eyes.
Discussion
I'm trying to source some replacement parts for the oil plumbing on a dry sumped ford engine. I had no idea that thread identification etc. was so damn complicated. None of the original kit is marked and the number of JIC, BSP, NPTF and Metric possibilities is starting to make my brain bleed. Does anyone know of a source of explanation. MTIA.
Old British stuff will almost certainly be BSP or BSP taper. However, Goodridge among others produce a lot of stuff with American JIC threads.
Think Metric or NPT unlikely.
Best suggestion I can make to identify what you've got is to take it along to your local hydraulic hose suppliers if you have one (see Yellow Pages) and ask them to check it against either thread gauges or fittings.
Might as well get them to give you a price for replacements while you're there.

Dont bother using Pirtek (at least in MK) unless its a pipe for a JCB, they havn't a clue.
I had a fitting custom made on a lathe for my gearbox, went to them to have my braided hose crimped to it, he completley crushed the fitting in his million ton press.
Merlin motor sport are ok.
Earls in northampton is mega expensive, 1 single elbow fitting to go on the end of a fuel regulator - "£45 sir".
eliot.
