Are there any Diesel fans in this forum? Has anyone considered putting a Diesel, in particular a TDI into a kit? What are the drawbacks in your minds of doing so? I am keen on the idea of a mid-engine transplant of the FWD powertrain. I know that Diesels are very popular in Europe. I am wandering if this translates to kits being built with one. How does the UK feel about Diesels?
My interest in a kit is for everyday driving not a track car, though I feel a well tuned TDI (150+hp and 300+ lb.ft.) would be quit performance oriented in a light mid-engined kit.

I'm looking at doing this myself, just need to find the right kit for a daily driver.

I'm looking for an auto gearbox, air con and a soft top. Not asking for much really !!

So far, the older VW TDi engine looks promising, I was especially interested in the V6 TDi.

If you're looking for a Seven style kit then there's a chap with a Westfield who's extracted (IIRC) something like 265 bhp from the 150bhp 1.9 TDi engine, can't remember the torque figure but it's well over 300 lb ft. Ask over on the Westfield boardroom. (www.wscc.co.uk)

How about one of Vince's Pythons powered by a BMW 3.0d? Hmmmmm, damn interesting idea! Might be a bit heretical though

Cheers,
Rob

A long time ago - at least 15 years - Westfield (I think) squeezed 170 odd bhp out of a Rover 1.7td. 0-60 in 5.0 and 45mpg
Didn't catch on then though
