Can any one with a westy or the like give me an idea of the diameter, wall thickness of the front anti roll bars.
I am making some for my locost and want the check that my guesstimates are in the right ball park.

Does any one racing a locost have any comments? Good bad or indifferent on the idea. I seem to be suffering roll oversteer in slow corners. Faster ones with the power on are fine.

are you looking at making them tubular or a solid bar. After seeing so many snapping on Westies in tubular, made mine from 7/16 en16 bar from a local supplier, cost a tenner.Works very well and the total to do front and rear(sei) was just over £100 including rose joints and materials.

I was thinking of tubular in T45 but you have made me wonder now.
I do have a mental block about putting bar in the car as I am trying to lighten it.

I have snapped the front anti-roll bar on a Westfield at an airfield day. When buying a replacement, the guy said they had never heard of one going before

If I remember I will pop to the garage tomorrow with the callipers and get you a diameter.

edited to say:
Don't forget the Westfield one is actually made from spring-steel and been properly tempered etc. and as Justin and I can testify - even they snap.

Thanks I am just looking for a start with dimensions. The actual fabrication and steels etc are not a problem

On the Westfield site,do a search, there's been plenty on snapped ones on there. That is one reason why it had to be a solid bar.By the time you have made the mounting brackets and the drop link fittings,I guess it may be about 2kg heavier. But,although not a metalurgised (sp?) I believe that when you twist a tube,it will not go round, but along a line, will ovalise. If this is within the mounting brackets, will cause it to seize and create undue pressure on the bar, maybe in time enough to snap it.Apparently,a Westie owner, spoke to the factory about snapping bars and their comment back was that they are cheap enough to replace at regular intervals.

Just had the callipers on it - 25 mm outer diameter for the bar. The arms on it are 19 mm outer diameter and 12 mm inner diameter. Can't det an inner diameter for the main bar - pity the snapped one got binned. Measurements work out with 0.3 mm-ish of powdercoat.
