I'm becoming interested in building a kit car.
So, as a newcomer to the idea, I went out and bought a couple of kit car magazines - the only two in my local WHSmith and presumably there aren't many competitors.

Both seemed to be well put together and informative.

So why did they both - one more than the other, but still both - waste quite a bit their paper and ink bitching about each other? Doesn't exactly look professional!

Apologies if this is an old topic, but it's disappointing, spoiled two interesting reads.

Light blue touch paper and stand well back...

I tend to read Kit Car when I buy one, I just prefer it I suppose. Truth is they're both good mags, and either is worth a read, which one you prefer is really down to your personal preference.

Don't forget to have alook at the new Total Kit Car magazine too

That's what I thought.

Is that any good? Should it be in most big newsagents?

John, if you really want to find out (I'd recommend you don't waste your time ) just look back over some of the older threads in this forum. Look mainly for the ones with the closed padlock next to them.

For Totalkitcar look on www.totalkitcar.com that has the ordering details.

It will only be available from main WH Smiths etc.

As for the bitchin' between the mags. We've all been there . . . been a major topic for months . . . just look for closed topics (they all end up that way).

Both mags have their good bits. I prefer Kit Car. They are more approachable and Den (the publisher) was availble on here to offer technical advice. (you can find him on www.MadAbout-kitcars.com occasionally)

Only problem reading all the mags is that they tend to feature the same cars within a month or so of each other. That can be an advantage too, as some reviews are more frank than others.

WK? do build features, whereas Kit Car haven't been. I reckon this may change now Nigel Dean is settling in.

Ah well if it's an old topic I won't go raising it again!

Next problem: How to convince my wife that building a kit car is a good alternative to all the jobs she wants me to do around the house

Easy

Tell her you'll need workspace to do the jobs and therefore need to sort the garage out.

Next inform her that you'll need to buy some tools etc to complete the jobs.

Finally you just need to convince her that you'll need to try out the tools on something first and need practice by doing something practical, as you don't want to ruin the jobs around the house.

If that doesn't work just tell her you want a kit car as everyone needs a hobby and after all, the garage is closer than the pub!

Take her to one of the bigger shows, and get her to sit in something exotic...... bingo!

(Well, it worked for me!)

I explained that I needed something to keep me busy to help me give up

Unfortunately some of the problems I have had have induce that much stress that I have now started again.

Ah the joys of taking on someone elses part built project

The other thing I would say is you have to do both the house jobs and build your car. You have to do the house jobs to build up garage points to enable you to work on your car.

My plan was to suggest - once I had some experience, of course, not to mention she getting a driving licence - building her a Dodge Viper replica - should definitely go down well, her #1 favourite!

I think you're right on the button there. And I'll have to build up a reasonable credit balance to begin with
