A friend is trying to rebuild a kit, (moss malvern), but wants to replace the tired spitfire engine and box with something that can have an AUTO (big feet, small pedal box). Now power isn't a major issue due to the nature of the car, but engine bay space is....I heard that the pinto is a lot taller, and heavier than the CVH, but which of the CVH's will fit onto a type 9 auto box? is there a difference between the 1600 and 1800cc input shafts?
would a sierra 1800cc to sierra auto box be the easiest option?

If anyone can link to info on these conversions etc, then much apprieciated.

Many thanks.

And if wilkins is listening, I'd just like to say that I did immeidiately turn to the Which Kit guide to 4 cylinder engines for advice, but a "fringe" engine like the CVH wasn't in there!! how about a ford only comparison into what bits can go with what gearboxes????

Matt.

The pinto is a very tall engine, it gives problems with many kt cars, requiring either a bonnet bulge or chopping the sump down to get clearance (or both!).

The CVH will bolt up to a Type9, though I do not know what clutch combinations are required. The 1.8CVH was a bit of a breathless slug, but came with an auto box on some Sierra's so would save a lot of messing around.
