Hi

i'm in the position to acquire a unfinished Tiger R6 which originally had a ford zetec motor.

The bloke who currently has it was going to fit a 2002 fuel injection Honda fireblade engine.

What has been done so far looks pretty good and the kit has all the right bits (LSD/4pots/Quaife r/box etc) to convert to a BEC.

What concerns me is that there is no way to mount the blade motor and it also needs an exhaust making up for it.

I'm in the Isle of Man so its not a simple case of dropping off to a specialist to sort out and my engineering skills leave a little to be desired, however i'm a fairly good mechanic/bike engine builder.

I realy hoping that someone can give me a contact of a specialist I can talk to or that has done something similar.

He is asking 5grand for the kit complete with the engine, from what i can see all that needs buying is a pair of seats, complete exhaust and getting the engine mounted.

Is this a worthwhile project and is it a decent price?Any help much appreciated.

Hi and welcome,
Has it already been registered? If not it sounds a bit pricy to me. But I'm sure some others can give you more info.

Tiger themselves maybe able to supply a fitting kit or at least suggest another supplier.

Cheers for the quick reply peetbee.

It hasnt been registered as far as i'm aware, it has the original chassis/VIN plate from tiger so it might be a case of having it re-tested and then getting it registered with just a change of engine & engine size.

If the blade engine is the same as mine the ecu controls a valve in the exhaust and a flap in the airbox and presumably fuels the engine to account for that. If you aren't using any of that stuff you probably will have to get a new ecu mapped for you I guess which may be expensive.

Are you sure you're talking about a Blade here? Methinks you mean the Exup valve in a Yamaha.

In which case I thought it was generally reckoned that just disconnecting was fine and that the ECU didn't care if it wasn't there. I'd suggest asking on the bike-engined-cars Yahoo group.

Yes I'm sure, I've had the thing for 3 years It has a rotating barrel in the 4 into 2 part of the exhaust which redirects the exhaust flow above 3000rpm and again at 8000rpm. Also at 8000rpm it opens a flap in the airbox letting a lot more air in.

It's not just a flap that opens like the old yamaha valve so I wouldn't have thought so. As you say, an expert should be consulted (preferably before he commits to the engine).

Worth pursuing though as it's a great engine.

If it's a 2001 engine and the kits not been registered be careful 'cos you're going to need a Cat to pass the emissions tests at the SVA.

But £5k is a snip... I'd snatch his hand off!
