I am soon going to turn 19 with a years no claims under my belt. With having no responsibilities I have decided to look into the kit car route and would love a lotus 7 style car.

I havn't got the faintest what is on the market and the differences.

The car would be used a few times a week with a weekend run every now and again about 3000 miles a year).

Being young and looking at previous threads I think I would want a 1.3/1.4 engine, with a 1.4 zetec looking like a good option.

What would I be looking at for a second hand 1.3/1.4 7 kit??

The Locost from Ron Champion's book used a 1.3 XFlow from a Mk2 Escort. Of course it all depends upon your budget, but a couple of grand out to get you a reasonable specimen of this ilk.

Alternatively if the budgets a bit lower, something along the lines of a Dutton Phaeton, but this will depend upon your view of the aesthetics of it.

Your no claims probably won't count for much as most specialist insurers don't give such discounts. They will usually retain the no claims certificate for you so it won't expire but it won't be used to get you cheaper insurance than they already offer.
