SVA in Essex

Has anyone taken their pride & joy to Chelmsford for an SVA?
I get my kit delivered tomorrow so it'll be quite some time to SVA, but I like to plan ahead and know how much I need to put aside if I get the factory to SVA the car.

I chose Gillingham as I know htey do more 'kit cars' than most with most of the Caterham's going through there. My nearest was Southampton but had heard they were not the most helpful. My experience at Gillingham was very good

Sorry Graham, although I live in Sible Hedingham I took mine to Nottingham as I wanted GTM to set up the suspension. I think Ultimas generally go through Notts don't they??

Yer i have three Bugrats to date ,they pasted two no problems and the third they moved the goal posts and had real agro !! thing that were ok before now were not ??
and when i said you had past two car to date they just said "well it is SINGLE Vehicle approval"

its through now but

What was the problem(s) with the 3rd?

I only know of one Ultima going to Chelmsford and it failed so they took it too Notts...... that's where mine went through.

To be fair on them the rules do seem to be open for interpretation and they only get so long with the vehicle.

They dicided that what was a "GRILL" was no longer a "GRILL" and was an "EXTERIOR SURFACE" and as such the wire of the mess had to be 5mm dia to have a 2.5mm radius !!! as a GRILL it only needed a 1mm rad !!!
so we slaped alloy panels over the "Grills" they did not like and it passed (then took them off as soon as it was out side !! as every one seems to do!!!)

Oh, and had to change some of the brake res pipe as it was not marked for Fuel& brake fluid !!(it was the old Skoda pipe as on the car that had been on the road since 1992??)
