If the pedals in a caterham are closer together than in my westfield se then you'd have to be a particularly unfortunate pirate to drive it.

I got in my westy today to move it from the drive on to the road with a for sale sign in and had to get back out again to change my 'working on cars' boots for my 'pub' trainers.

Oi Dern, there has been a destinct lack of you in GPL recently, I hope you have a valid excuse for your absense?

Difficult to say since I've never got in a Caterham, but I manage fine in my Westy with size 12s. If I wear wide shoes there's a bit of a 2 pedals at once problem, but I can drive it in 'normal' shoes. Most of the time though I wear either racing boots or my nice new Puma racing shoe style trainers.

Also in the Caterham, you had to physically 'lift off' and then move your foot over, you couldn't side across.

Is this the case with the westie?

Surely that's either bad design or failing to set them up properly?
I've not been in the footwell of either car but would have thought you could adjust things.
There is sometimes adjustment in the master cylinder pushrod length. Also the throttle pedal can normally be re-profiled (bent) so both pedals are in line.

You set the pedals wherever you want in a Caterham - when you get 'fitted' for a new one, you can ask for them to be placed.. (unless you are 6'6" in which case they are always too close)

Adjusting pedals is a doddle in the Westfield. I'm size ten, and can drive a Westy in my boots with ease.

Having driven both I can safely say that there is barely any noticable difference in the pedal spacing between Caterhams and Westfields.

However, and this is a big point, the actual pedalbox in a Caterham is much smaller than the Westfield and it is virtualy impossible to drive one without very small shoes or racing boots.
