Well you have come to the right place. VinceRD is actually the manufacturer of the Python and Kitcarman created the Pilgrim Sumo.

They get on like a house on fire(people running about screaming, lots of collateral damage, etc) and their opinions on each other have been done to death, so don't worry if you get accused of trolling.

There are some craking kits out there ranging from around the 12 grand to the 60 grand mark. Best thing is to decide how much do you want to spend and what do you want to use it for.

A useful snippet I heard from Dax (who make the Tojero) is that a £15K car will depreciate more than a more expensive build as the quality of the finish is unlikely to match a 25K car

Hi,

I'm biased in that I built/own/drive a Gardner Douglas, so naturally that's the best :d

What's best is very personal, kind of depends on what you want out of it, how many pennies you want to spend and how handy with a spanner you are.

The favourites would be:
GD
AK
DAX
Pilgrim
Crendon
Hawk

We have a little club if you want to pop over and get lots of different views (cobraclub.com)

Damage limitation!!Ak is the way to go!! Seriously any of the known manufacturers! As Jim has said. Depends how adept you are, how much you want to spend, and what you want to end up with!
Cheers Chris

I've got a Dax which I built myself and have only the highest praise for them, the ease of build, and the finished product. You won't go wrong with one of those. That's not to say any of the other makes mentioned aren't great too!

Good luck.

Sounds like a single donor car from the 'budget' end of the market is what you're looking for, in which case check out the Pilgrim Sumo, Euro 427 (both Sierra base) and the BMW based RV Dynamics Python.

Get along to the Newark kit car show June 19th & 20th and you'll probably be able to see all three in the same place as well as talk to fake snake owners on the club stands.

Maybe worth posting on the Cobra Club forum (if you haven't already?)

Loads of experienced builders/owners of Cobra replicas from the extreme budget end of the market, to the ludicrously extortionate end!

I'm building an RV Python at the moment. Can't comment on the others.

It's been a easy so far (only at the rolling chassis stage). Just having the one donor has probably made life easier. Parts are surprisingly cheap, but as I'm used to motorbike and mountainbike parts they probably would be...

Power for the £ is pretty good at over 200bhp with a stock donor motor (saves the hassle of sourcing an engine seperately as well). Talking to Vince it looks like he's met his 850kg final weight too which is nice...

Body is turning up in the next few weeks and the engine will be back after a top-end fettling then the real fun starts.

Sorry to bother you all again, but I have some more questions. Any info on american sourced Cobras?
ie buying a complete from the US or a ready built car.
Any potentinal problems? SVA test? Import tax? LHD conversion etc etc. Any help would be great.

Have to ask, but why are you even considering this? Can't see that it offers any advantages whatsoever, but would give all the hassle of shipping, import tax, conversion of lights and other things for SVA.

We have in the UK all the Cobra kits you could want.
Every variant and every price range is covered.
Any kit built in the UK will be based around either all new parts or more importantly, donor parts from cars readily available in the UK.

If you buy from the US it will be based on parts from an American donor and will make finding spares very time consuming if not impossible.

But British.

When I last had contact with Den, it was on the Cobra Replica site www.ac427.com
He's been putting a lot of effort into his new mag - "Cobra" aimed at the growing replica market.
He's also had some photos from me for a forthcoming article on Fiero-Factory, but I've not been asked for any further input, but I expect it to be scathing... especially as regards customer service.

Floyd III here, Vince's American friend. I grew up in and around NASCAR and a friend, Kenny Trout did one of the first Cobra replicas in 1975/76. There are a lot of excellent American Cobra kits, but none that I feel are worth the extra effort and expense to bring to the UK, but it all depends on what you want. I will be glad to answer questions on specific ones and may know some of the players involved in the companies and may be able to help you get in contact with several.

I came to the UK to talk to Vince about a chassis for my PLJ Ferrari Daytona moulds and was so impressed I came to Sri Lanka. I am here helping Vince and we are working on my chassis and we are preparing the Python for a US release in 2005.

If you want a quick glimpse of me, see Cobra Venon "That Python Thing" on page 18 of Tanner latest and you will see me, not Vince, loading the Python into the container.

Great Forum,

thanks,
Floyd III

I think the SVA bit will be a right royal pain in the arse if you bring a US kit in. Not impossible but hard work when all the UK manufacturers are already doing it.

If that's about their Euro 427 isn't it going to be a bit late as they've sold the project to a new company?
