1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL (W113)
Discussion
Thanks, but that is just the standard first numbers, the last 5 I need. The car is certainly not matching numbers, the engine supplied from new in 1966 is 12241, shown on the data card, the log book issued in 2015 shows 03044 as the engine number, so a swap sometime in the USA. Do you have a photo of the last 5 digits of the engine in the car? Also did you keep the black soft top that the car came with or was beyond repair? Thanks
To save me a trip to Orpington, can you photograph the vin number and engine number on this car?
So the car was supplied in Papyrus White, was it repainted in Papyrus White or another white?
Folding Roof was supplied black but is now a new Blue Roof?
Original Engine number was 012241 on Data Card
Engine replaced with Engine number 003044 which is from 1964 model year car and on the V5C. Do you know from previous owner or in the documentation what year the replacement was done and any clue on the mileage on the 1964 engine? Thanks

Thank you for your questions, unfortunately I am not home until friday, everything I have on the car is laid out for all to see. But you're welcome to come view the car and you will find a solid example of a 60 year old Mercedes 230 SL. I've spent a lot of money on the car myself, carrying on from the previous owners investment, which the successful buyer will benefit from. I appreciate the time it must have taken you for such a detailed historical search, but to save you a trip to Orpington the VinNo. and Engine No. are displayed on the V5 document, these numbers match the numbers on the car.
Thanks, but 5 min job, Data Card tells you everything and engine numbers are sequential from 000001 so you can date the engine year, so this replacement engine is older than the car. Probably explains the mileage discrepancy, just would have been nice to know when engine was replaced in the USA.
Thank you again for you interest in my car. Seeing it again today i cant believe i'm selling but I now have a RHD variant so can't have both. Engine number on the car and the V5 do match for when the car was registered in the UK, the listing has never stated its a "matching number car". You may indeed be correct that the engine in the car is not that from the factory. This may have been done at the point of the extensive restoration, which would not be unusual. That said the engine is superb and has a huge history file. Any reason for the engine change was before my ownership so i apologise I can not give more detail on this. Thank you again for the interest in my car, good luck with your bidding, it is absolutely stunning you will not be disappointed.
