Good morning,

Looking back through the old MOT's, it seems there was quite a bit of corrosion on the suspension arms. Have these been replaced?

Many thanks

David

Hi David. No they haven’t. RGB do my servicing and MOTs and did not even mention them on last MOT.. They were also not mentioned in the fail test in July. It is surface rust not structural, where the waxoyl coating has chipped away.. You can see the condition on a few of the mechanical photos. Depends on the tester what advisories they mention I guess. Car has dry been garaged since I bought it. Also doesn’t go out in the wet.

A lovely looking car. A beautiful colour.

Front wishbones are formed out of simple angle steel and do rust quite easily. It seems these are probably only rusty where they haven’t been protected as the OP stated. If I was that worried about it, I would buy a set of adjustable tubular wishbones if they are still available.

I do miss my old TVR, I’ll give you 10 for it. ….

No power steering. Only notice it at low speed where it is heavy. Feel at speed is great without though.

I think a few cows gave their last for it. D&C trim were brilliant. They used to work in the original Blackpool factory trimming the cars. I took the car to them and Surface and Design as an homage as they were in part of the old TVR factory. Don’t see craftsmanship like those guys all that often. Bit of a trip from Cornwall mind!

Morning, Thanks for confirming re chassis and mot.

The paperwork shows an engine rebuild in 2006, was the ecu changed, bore checked etc in 2016? If so what milage was it on.

A suspension upgrade is mentioned, is that nitrons all round? Do you know approx how many miles they have on?

Final one, what size are the wheels?

Many thanks

David

I believe the previous owner did a bottom end rebuild prior to my ownership. Crank, rebuild and fitted top hat liners so that wouldn’t happen again. They also did a more work such as upgraded camshaft etc.

I ran it from 2010 to 2016 when I decided to do a full refurb of both the mechanicals and the bodywork. This was at between 69000 and 70000 miles. Only done a few hundred miles a year on sunny days since.it was more than a ECU change. The entire ignition system and fuelling system was pretty much replaced. lucas ecu, distributor, wiring loom, was all replaced as part of CANEMS upgrade. CANEMS programmable ecu, new loom, coil packs etc. so now has sequential ignition and full mapping. Original Lucas ECU only controls fuelling not ignition. It also massively overfuels over 4750 rpm as it was off a Range Rover so to avoid engine over leaning TVR went that route. Hence a standard 500 is all about low down torque but power flatlines once you pass 5000 rpm as it becomes inefficient.. CANEMS maps all way to red line, plus controls ignition timing so pulls hard all the way .This is a link to the latest kit https://www.lloydspecialistdevelopments.co.uk/prod...

It was installed with various further upgrades to the injectors to Bosch’s injectors to flow more fuel, updated the fuel pump, new fuel lines and then had it remapped. Think we even had a new fuel tank as the old one was a bit corroded. We also put on a balanced prop shaft, competition clutch, replaced the crankshaft oil seals, skimmed the heads, powder coated rocker covers, new water pump, silicon hoses, new radiator and all new gaskets seals etc. I basically told LLoyds to do what needed doing.

It is capable of a lot more power but was mapped for driveability and engine longevity. I wanted lots of mid range torque and didn’t want to over stress the 500 - being over square the torque can be too much unless you upgrade the bottom end, con rods etc. this also took advantage of the uprated camshaft the previous owner had fitted. This does not drive like a standard car, it revs faster and has more grunt. It also shunts a bit less at lower speed but that’s all relative.

Lloyds did a full engine check before installing the upgrades. They wouldn’t do it unless the engine was sound. Engine was compression tested and bores checked when head off.

A suspension upgrade is mentioned, is that nitrons all round? Do you know approx how many miles they have on?

Car had Nitrons all round when I bought it. They were all refurbed in 2016 (sent back to Nitron). Car is setup a smidge lower than standard, but is tuned to be quite compliant and less prone to breakaway than the standard window maker. Of course they can be adjusted but I have never done so since it was setup. 2000 miles or so since refurb.

Final one, what size are the wheels?

Wheels are 17” all round. To maintain the front forward slope (oe is 15 front, 16 rear) they adjusted suspension height a bit. Tyres are corrects spec to keep rolling radius correct for speedo. Toyo proxes all round.
