2006 Volkswagen Phaeton V10 TDI 4Motion LWB
Discussion
About 5 years ago I was helping my daughter and her husband find a used car .
We went to a garage in Sussex on the site of a closed petrol station.
We were looking at an Astra described as having a clean MOT .
When I checked it had four or five advisories. I asked the fellow on the day and he took the paper copy from his folder and said it was a clean MOT not all dirty with greasy finger prints and coffee stains etc .
He was absolutely serious.
We did buy a car from them as it happens!

What are the 2 huge round holes in the centre of the front valence?
thank you for your question:the seller informs us : "the cut out holes were used to house large fog lamps as the previous owner used to travel to Germany a few times a year"
Good luck with your bidding
I was fortunate enough to own and run one of these superb machines for 18 months till an old gent misjudged a gap and drove literally down the side of it. Remapped to 400 bhp and 850Nm it went like stink but in a cossetted gentlemans club environment whilst falling under the radar of general public as a "Fat Passat".. a run from East Lancs to Devon saw 36.9 mpg although the usual commute 54 miles each way to Knutsford was usually closer to 31. Bits even basic consumables were/are not cheap, disks and pads were 1200 quid, new suspension bushes not far off a grand.
Turbos suffer from no room and thus a heat sink process failure.. set off and then stop a few miles later for say a coffee when you restart and boot it the turbos fail to operate due to the actuators being too warm and car goes into limp.. however, drive a couple of miles, stop, restart engine and all is well again as they will have cooled due to the drive.
I absolutely love Phaetons, had a v6 TDI both before and after the V10, in all I did over 200k miles in them and taking depreciation and servicing my annual average was still only 1500 quid a year. ( made money on the v10, bought for 5, insurance could only find one for sale at the time and offered 8.. ) .
They are getting older, there are a LOT of parts that are bespoke thus hard to find.. e.g the ZAB info/climate control unit. so go in with eyes wide open, even the V6s can throw a bill as big as what the cars worth quite easily nowadays.
Still, I can tell my EV/Hydrogen/Nuclear powered grandkids that I drove such a monstrocity whilst sitting in a nappy in the care home.. :-)

Can you please explain this mileage discrepancy in the service record presented in the advert:
"Nov 2010 @ 62,373 miles, Nov 2011 @ 55,289 miles"
It has lost approximately 7000 miles from one year to the next.
Apologies, this was an error in the transcription of the service records from the book. We've been through and double checked and the listing should now be correct"Nov 2010 @ 62,373 miles, Nov 2011 @ 55,289 miles"
It has lost approximately 7000 miles from one year to the next.
Yes both at the same time - best combination bentley and phaeton. You wouldn’t believe that a Volkswagen and a Bentley have the same interior. In my opinion, phaeton is a lot better than bentley, more punch and even more comfortable especially this LWB version absolutely irons out bumps in the roads.
Good luck bidding!
