1999 BMW Z3 M Coupe
Discussion
Good evening both.
There is a photo of the damage included in the listing photos. It required a headlight, front bumper and bonnet repair. This was in 2010 when the cars value was considerably lower, hence the Cat D. It was repaired very well - I cannot see any evidence of it. It was purely cosmetic.
With regards to the corrosion, I believe it's pointing to an area by the sill. I haven't noted any corrosion - I wonder if the tester was being a little overzealous. I will grab some photos of the underside on Monday/Tuesday (depends when I can get away from the kids!) And will have them posted here.

Many thanks. Apologies for not clocking the aforementioned photo There is a photo of the damage included in the listing photos. It required a headlight, front bumper and bonnet repair. Hello all. Please excuse the late reply; I've been terribly unwell and bed bound. Thankfully feeling somewhat better, and I have taken photos as well as I could. I also have a video - if anyone wishes to see please contact directly and I'll be happy to forward it over.
To answer the questions above, the car hasn't been a daily driver - I've covered circa 30,000 miles in the 8 odd years I've owned it, and has been used as an enjoyment alongside my other cars.
RE rear Subframe, I am unaware if any work was carried out which I do not have receipts for, however the vehicle has been looked after by specialists (including Redish Motorsport, probably the most renound underside BMW specialist in the country) and there has never been any mention regarding work requiring. I have no doubts if it needed doing they would have mentioned it in the many times they saw it (alongside the other specialists).
Please see the photos below of the n/s/r inner sill section, outer sill section, and around the rear of the arch/rear end.
To my knowledge all I can see is the usual surface rust expected from a 24 year old car. Everything I poked and prodded was solid. I assume the MOT tester was overly cautious.

Hi Billie.
I'm sorry you've come to that conclusion. I would suggest viewing the vehicle if you are interested so you can assess the car properly and not conclude an opinion from a few photographs?
The car has been very well cared for (the receipts shown are merely a snapshot into the history) and what you see is nothing more than surface rust, as expected on any used car.
The car has been loved but also used. Its not a garage queen, and lest we forget it is near 25 years old and has covered 128,000 miles. I am unsure what you would expect a non-restored vehicle to look like, especially at the lower end of what the Z3M coupe's are worth.
We all see life through our own 'lense'. The underside to you may be unacceptable. To me, it is mere surface rust from general use, as backed up by experts such as Redish. In this instance, I'm happy to go with the professional opinion of those of have actually seen the car.
As I have mentioned I am open to anyone visiting to view and inspect the car, and I also have recorded a video of the underside - please contact me and I will be happy to forward that over for you.

I think the car looks in very good condition, the underside looks pretty good. There is some surface rust and the option to have this removed and then under sealed. Having owned a z3m coupe, you have to know where to stop in terms of maintenance. It’s a car, and although not new, they are perhaps better and will out last a lot of newer cars whilst leaving them for dead
The S50 b32 sound amazing and an engine I will miss. If you want to do a nut and bolt restoration you can or even buy one that has had this level of work done, but expect to pay twice the amount as this is being advertised for. All in all a good price for a truly rare car. Good luck with your sale and I hope you feel better soon.

Hi there,
I sold my Imola Red Z3M last May, and possibly keen to buy, can’t decide between an Escort RS though.
Does the clock still work?
Are we talking mk1/mk2 RS or mk3/mk4 RS turbo? I love them all so I can appreciate the difficulty in choosing!I sold my Imola Red Z3M last May, and possibly keen to buy, can’t decide between an Escort RS though.

The clock is temperamental and either works or doesn't. I have been tempted in the past to send it off to one of those dial repair companies - they seem quite reasonable at around £50, however the clock not working hadn't really bothered me, and I've concentrated on the moving bits
Hi there,
Thanks for your comments. Could you send me the link for the clock work? I am looking at the mk4 ford escort RS, but I do miss my Z3M.
Another couple of questions:
1) Is the AC blowing cold air? Has it been regassed?
2) What brand of tyres are on the car, can you let me know the tread?
Many thanks

I do love the S2 RS - though finding a good one now is pretty tough! If you do, ensure it still has the LSD - many have been swapped out for non-RS boxes over the years. Thanks for your comments. RE clock work, there are many companies and very happy to help - check out speedy cables - they are fantastic.
The air conditioning does blow cold, though I'd probably argue it could benefit from a regas, only because its been a little while since.
The tyres are Michelin on the front and Goodyears on the rear, and all have plenty of tread. I don't have a tread depth gauge to hand but I'd estimate circa 5mm on all at least.
