I got a bit sidetracked and started looking at various things on Motorsport Auctions...

...and because of the way my mind is wired up I started thinking.. how can an evo so young get through an MOT with no airbag..!?

So how? Is it because it's got no airbag light because it hasn't got any of the original dash bits left? If so why can't Bazza do that with his Corsa? Is it because they were somehow SVA'd originally? Same with the handbrakes.. how do they get a vertical hydraulic handbrake through when the drift-yo people get in trouble..?! is it just one of those things that they get through because they're ruddy expensive and the 'comunity' knows they aren't lashed up and so they magically get MOTs when a normal car wouldn't or is it because they're actually subject to different rules (somehow - again some sort of SVA/low volume thing)..

Pretty easy to build a hydraulic handbrake that passes MOTs. You just leave the original bits in, and make the connection via a clevis pin so that the car can use the normal handbrake on the road, and the hydraulic one for competition.

It is sometimes even easier, as one can sometimes arrange things so that if the hydraulics fail, the lever moves a bit further and pulls the mechanical bits.
Okay - so that's the handbrake dealt with..

..what about the airbag..?

and there's probably other daft things too that aren't obvious to me..(and what about the other pointless MOT stuff aka emissions..)

it's an interesting point about the modified of rcomp. use and the msa log book..
but really??

my mx5 was clearly a rally car then!
it had a steel half cage
number boxes without numbers
harneses
bucket seats

the only thing was nothing was 'in date'..
