The AWMMC “Heart of England” Rally championship
Discussion
The AWMMC Heart of England rally championship is a regional rally championship in the midlands area of England, Wales and relatively nearby areas.
It consists of several single venue rallies at places like Weston Park in Staffordshire, Melbourne airfield near York, Abingdon airfield in Oxfordshire, Epynt in Wales and Donington Park race circuit (the only circuit based round) in the East Midlands, amongst others, So, although largely midlands based there are rounds across the “heart of England” and it is a very accessible championship. It’s even possible to enter this championship as well as another regional championship as there are several shared events, and class wins are still possible.
The championship regs and the calendar are here:
https://www.awmmc.org.uk/championships/ ... ampionship
As well as the normal overall and class awards, there are awards for lady drivers and Co-drivers, juniors and novices.
The Championship is 2 rounds old now, with the first event having taken place at the AGBO stages at Weston Park and second event of the year, the Lookout Stages, having just taken place at Melbourne.
Even though the championship is two rounds old, there is still chance to register and get enough points to win overall or in a class. There are over 60 registered driver and over 50 registered Co-drivers across all classes so far this year.
From my own point of view I want to point out that, once again, there is a “club classic” class for 2wd, pre 1988 cars with OEM engines and h-pattern gearboxes. The Club Classic Class is being supported by Cooke-Yeomans Consulting and Rob Brook’s “Clubman Motorsport”rally equipment supply company. Cooke-Yeomans Consulting and are offering vouchers to be used at Clubman Motorsport. Clubman Motorsport will add an additional 10% onto the values below
1st Driver & Co Driver- £150 Voucher each
2nd Driver & Co Driver £100 Voucher each
3rd Driver & Co Driver £50 Voucher each
Not big money, I know, but at least it is something, and certainly helps if you need to replace your suit, helmet, gloves, fire extinguisher, aux lights etc etc.
There is also another new class to U.K. rallying, to try to encourage more modern cars to take part, and that is Class T for post year 2000, 2wd cars with <1600cc forced induction engines. Ideal for a Mini R53 or a Fiesta ST etc.

Full entry of 100 for the Abingdon CAR-nival stages on Sunday 11 June, of which 33 are from the AMMMC Heart of England Championship.
I am out in the Escort in the “club classic” class for my first non circuit based rally.
I didn’t have a great day, unfortunately. Misfire on SS1 and then after a good run on SS2 (70th quickest out of 100) we came back to the paddock with the front brakes on fire!!!!! And then we discovered a cracked front left brake disk! Game over. It’s a hard place on brakes!I am out in the Escort in the “club classic” class for my first non circuit based rally.
