AGBO and Dukeries rallies in the Mindl this weekend (12 Feb)
Discussion
Both of the above rallies are taking place in the Midlands on 12 March.
The AGBO at Weston Park in Staffordshire - a SV tarmac rally on the estate roads used in the past on the RAC Rally, and the Dukeries, a circuit rally now at Donington Park.
It’s a pity they are in the same day as probably only about 25 miles apart, but such is life.
I didn’t get an entry for the AGBO (160 entries for 80 places, but rallying is dying apparently) so have entered The Dukeries instead. There’s a full entry there, too. Ima, seeded at 81 (Yellow Mk2 Escort if anyone wants to say “hi”.
Hope it goes better than last time at Donington in Dec 21, when I crashed out!

Things is I would guess Dukeries in MSV series, they will not allow 4wd stuff much in AGBO event, I think this year is the first it has been open to them but only H pattern and older models.
So although silly on the same day, it is always full and the events cater for different people I think

No MSV circuit rally series now, although there is a circuit rally championship. So although silly on the same day, it is always full and the events cater for different people I think
Plenty of people would like to do both events. There were 30 reserves for the AGBO and anther 50 who did not even make the reserve list.
I suspect the real impact is on marshals availability.

Sure your driving will be fine - just make sure you have some snow tyres
I don’t think we will need snow tyres. 2 degrees and sleet forecast on Saturday, warming to 5 degrees overnight on Saturday and 9 degrees and showers on Sunday. Won’t be very pleasant for the set up crews unfortunately, and will be slippy on stage on Sunday.Had a great day rallying at Donington Park yesterday on the 2023 Northside Truck & Van Dukeries Rally. Probably my best event so far. Really enjoyed the longer stages and the car went well. I tried to drive tidily and neatly and it seemed to pay off despite the slippery conditions early on.
I was seeded at 81/90 and finished 53/68 ahead of a few ostensibly faster cars. Most importantly I finished ahead of the other two Pinto powered Escorts in the event in our own unofficial “club classic” class. Nor bad for a “dinosaur spec” car. Chuffed.
Well done to Steve Dolman and Jon Shepherd for winning the 1600-2000 litre class in their “blue streak missile” MX5; a great result against a few very quick and highly modified modern spec Escorts.
There was also a very quick Ford Focus out in our class, not a popular rally car really, which was seeded 78 but finished 37th overall, and 7th in the 1600-2000cc class.

I am at about minute 43:20 in that coverage.A pair of short videos of some of the action from Sunday at Donington Park.
The first on (about 4 mins long) shows me in my dinosaur spec Escort, and the second one shows some other brief, er, highlights of some of the action.
Click on the link and watch via the drop box website, I think.
