I asked the online chat lady but she seemed to need all of my personal details before she would answer this question…..

I’m thinking of buying one for my kids to share (I have three turning 17 in the next three years). I’ve never bought a new car before but they are so cheap that I’m thinking they might make more sense than buying the usual polo / fiesta, Argo etc. at currently inflated prices. 1 litre engines and only £10.5k in very basic spec. What’s not to like? Thanks

Local dealer is probably open - give them a call and ask. hehe If it's like everything else it'll be a few months. Good idea though - they're decent cars. Haven't any experience with the new one, but there's something to be said for putting your kids in a modern, safe first car.

Ring about.

Ordered a new duster in Nov and that's due in March.

Good little cars though I personally think a nice 500 quid shed is what's needed for a 17 year old tongue out

Definatly need to ring the dealer and see what they advise. If you not fussy on colour or spec they might have one in the network you can have quicker.

I’d have agreed on the 500 quid shed until recently. However I’m told that insurance quotes are lower on new vehicles. A new car has to be safer. I will be swapping in my wife’s 2015 bmw i3 so the change will ‘cost’ me nothing but I hope that a new car will soften the blow of losing her i3.

You'll struggle to die in anything made in the past decade. Pedestrian safety has been the major recent change.

But think this way: They will damage the new car. You know it, I know it, they know it.

Our girl got a £4500, mechanically tidy Copen to run about in as a first car. It's squillions of times better than my first car (a £325 Fiesta) was. She's going pretty well but has put the odd scuff on it and it'll probably need a clutch when the next owner has it (laugh) but it's served a purpose. We have agreed if she looks after it then once she's got a year's no claims we'll look at something better.

Buying a brand new car for a new driver is madness. Next you'll be saying you were going to PCP it so any damages come straight out of your pocket...

Maybe you are right?
It will be bought for cash. list is 10.5k and it should be worth approx 5k after 5 years, so a loss of £93 per month. For that my wife and three kids get the use of a decent modern car that shouldn’t really cost much more. If they do completely feck it I can keep it till it dies to really get the monthly maths down! It probably makes more sense to buy one of two cheaper cars but I doubt that we are talking huges sums when all costs are factored in.

Considering how expensive second hand cars are I think you are making a good choice. Dacia's seem to hold their value very well and I bet it would be cheaper in the long run to buy one of these than have a succession of sheds and the associated repair bills.

When I looked at a new Sandero a few weeks ago I was quoted a six month lead time.

If you want a good decent modern nearly new car, then I'd say you should take a look at the Fiat Tipo.
