New (to me) Taycan 4S
Discussion
Hi all, despite my username, I've had a Tesla Model S P100D for the past 8 years and although I loved the MS, I have lost love with the brand and since the influx of Model 3's, it just didn't feel special anymore (in 2017 they were an exclusive brand with only a few cars on the road, now they're like a Ford!).
So.....having loved my 996's in the past, I decided to get a Taycan CT 4S and I picked it up last weekend. Love the car (albeit the ride is a lot harder than the Tesla) but have some questions.
- It looks like I need to pay £23 a month, just to have the app tell me what the state of charge, etc is? What else do I get for that? Seems expensive when the Tesla was free and seemingly had a lot more functionality than the Porsche one? Or am I missing something?
- How do I set the charge limit to 80%? Nothing seems obvious to be able to do this?
- Is it possible to access the cameras? i.e. like a dashcam if I plug in a USB stick anywhere? Or via the app?
- Was traffic aware cruise control an option? I seem to have bought a car with almost every option ticked, but cannot for the life of me work out how to have anything but standard cruise control.
- When I registered the app, there's a notice about a recall (ARB6). I'm booked into the Porsche dealership on Friday, does anyone know what the issue is?
Thanks for any advice.

You might try Google
App is free for basic remote services like SOC.

That’s really strange. My old 4SCT on 21 inch wheels ride was like a Rolls Royce; unbelievably compliant.I’d check that the dealer hasn’t set the car to be in permanently lowered height when in default mode as this really impacts the ride quality. Even if dampers set to custom, the independent ride height hugely impacts comfort when in lowest range mode.
I do like the Taycan but it’s a totally different car to the P100D. It’s not as comfortable by a long way both with the seats and suspension but it’s nicer to drive around corners as a result.
The main difference for me is that the Taycan loses ZERO miles when parked overnight compared to my MS which would lose 7 miles a day in ‘phantom drain’. It does a similar kWh/mile to the MS but when you take into account the lack of phantom drain, I hardly charge it up compared.
The other main difference is the ‘prestige factor’. When I first bought a MS in 2017 they were special. No one had seen them really, but now the M3 is literally everywhere, it just doesn’t feel as special, so the Porsche puts that exclusivity back to some degree.
The only annoyances with the Taycan are all software related. It’s not a patch on the Tesla’s. A prime example is the fact that no matter what drive mode I put it in (ie range or sport mode) every time I get in the car it goes back to ‘normal’ mode. Just small annoyances such as this (and I can list 10-15 of these) make it just realise how far ahead Tesla are with their intuitive software.
Both great cars but the Taycan just edges it for me due to the exclusivity factor.

OK so if you don't have the black globe sensor in the lower front grille then you don't have Innodrive (adaptive cruise control).
To set the charge limit you set an active timer to 80% and when you want it to finish. It's not the same as Tesla but once I got my head round it I prefer it.
I really miss the practicality of my Model S P90DL (and the towbar) but that's it. My Taycan 4S is on 20" wheels and I find the suspension way way more comfortable and it handles so so much better than the Tesla.
I don't regret making the switch one little bit.

Re: Ride comfort, make sure the ride height hasn’t been reprogrammed to sit lower. I’ve come across people doing this on the Facebook group for ‘the look’ of the wheel arches. Also, the air suspension system is vulnerable to faults.
Ps. If those lowered cars come down from a crest at speed the bottom of the car can easily be damaged (it can happen even with the standard set up as there isn’t enough resistance to compression).
