Thinking of buying a used Taycan 4s.

They seem good value to what they were 6 months ago. The supposed 87% retained value was obviously nonsense.

I’m not worried about depreciation buying used but wondered if there are any common issues to look out for?

Check the heater has been fixed.
Check the dashboard doesn't light up.
Check that the brakes are functioning consistently.

Be aware that they have depreciated badly and they will keep dropping. The technology is eventually going to date badly and they have flooded the market with cars. And as many people have found out, it's a GT car in a country which doesn't suit GT cars due to the terrible charging infrastructure.

Wouldn't touch a new or used Taycan for a while even with a truly epic discount.

There's so much hitting them - much higher APR's, the slump in demand for EV's (especially stupid expensive ones), Tesla price drop, terrible charging infrastructure. You could add much higher leccy prices in too but I don't think thats moving the market.

It might fit your particular use case but that won't be for most and you'll take the biggest bath ever when you sell it. Apart from that, it's a decent steer.

I’m not a EV fan in all honesty. I’m just wary of what a labour government will do to ICE drivers. I can see ULEZ going nationwide.

I’d be much happier if the ridiculous 2030 ban never happens. It won’t make any difference to climate change.

I don’t do many miles these days so charging infrastructure isn’t a huge issue.

I was thinking a decent spec 4s seems relatively good value.

ULEZ is all over after the Uxbridge by-election. It won't happen now all the smug socialist politicos realise people don't want it and will vote them out.

I hope you’re right.

The madness needs to stop.

They are great cars to drive - I had an order in for a GTS Sport Turismo after having a day long test drive, but Porsche dicked about on delivery times, specifications and then started to have a string of technical issues (mentioned above) so I binned the order off. I'd have likely had mine a few months now - dodged a bullet.

I'd still like one, but as someone else mentioned above, won't be touching the prospect for a while longer, even at current used prices. I think there is still more to come out of the woodwork on issues, and still a lot more depreciation to happen. I'm also interested to see how range progresses as the cars get a bit older.

Keep a close eye on the approved used site. Cars hang around on there for ages and end up dropping by chunks.

Should a Labour govt come in and start offering tax incentives on used cars, prices might firm up. But that's as likely to happen on cars at this end of the market as my arse is of healing over smile

You got off lightly there for sure.

Last time I looked at cars they were selling for overs and owners were going on about bullet proof residuals. I can’t get my head round how that has turned on its head so quickly.

There seems to be some real bargains for sale privately, but approved used makes sense with these cars more than a 911 or regular Porsche.

I’m definitely going to wait and see what happens. Supply is way outstripping demand with these at the moment.

I’m guessing they are not popular with female drivers which won’t be helping either.

Definitely going to wait after looking today.

2020 4s cars look expensive compared to 2021 turbo’s.

Will definitely be going for a turbo. Crazy value compared to 6 months ago. Will be interesting to see what values are like in dec/Jan.

ULEZ is not about climate change, its about human health, its estimated 22k people die each year due to poor air quality and particulates.

Do you have anything to offer with regards the OP's question about buying a used Taycan?

Err, its a tax designed to raise revenue to help pay for the nearly bankrupt TFL.

This is the type of BS they will used to take it nationwide. People believe anything these days.

If air quality was killing people a lot more than 22k people would die a year.

You have to laugh really though, because people choose to live in city centres, and then moan about the poor air quality! hehe

It is quite simple really, don't live there in the first place. It is like buying a house next to a railway line, and then moaning about the noise.

Normally I have at least a couple of cars on my shortlist.

The way prices have gone over the last 6 months, nothing compares to the Taycan for me.

Pricing just seems to be all over the place atm. I’ve never seen anything like it.

From what I can work out there seems to be five types of pricing :

1. New cars very small discount if its physical
2. Porsche who have used cars on site , aim high and then drop by chunks every two weeks until they get sold especially ST
3. Non Porsche dealers who have had them 6 + months and are in denial and in may cases are priced higher than Porsche main dealers
4. Private individuals that need to sell and our sensible
5. Private individuals that are in big negative equity but till belive their car is worth a fortune becease when they bought it they were paying overs!!

Hence the prices for the same model, spec and age can vary massively even though there really is no difference !

Just my 2p worth !!

Why ?

If you mean range drop, on my turbo at worst it goes from 240 to 210, always been the same and its a real 240 or 210

Having said I have just had another update and its now 260 as of this morning!
