Is the extra power of the Turbo and TS only in overboost during acceleration?

When we went on a test drive we followed the salesman who was driving a Turbo and we were in a 4S. At the end of the drive I asked him on the couple of occasions he gave it beans was a fully flat and he was. We all agreed there wasn't a £20k+ uplift in performance and the 4S is the sweet spot. Which is still a damn fast car.

I genuinely don't understand why you'd buy a Turbo or Turbo S over a 4S, the cost delta seems to fall very clearly into the law of diminishing returns.

So far, bar a few little details the major update to the 2022 model year seems to be Android Auto, which is certainly a good thing as I'm not an Apple user.

Looks like America is getting Paint to Sample also. I wonder if we will? Oak Green Metallic would look lovely on a CT.

Forest green for me, would really suit the CT I reckon.

I've opened a dialogue with my dealer about PTS. His response was that it is likely to be available but with an unknown timescale and it's not unusual for these orders to take a year or so. Mainly as they are painted in batches.

I'm unlikely to see my car this year as it is and I wouldn't be surprised if it was pushed back even further given the sheer volume of orders and international supply issues with components. To that end I'd like to go with PTS if it's available so I've asked him to find out what is actually possible.

I'll update here if I get anything further to report.

You can get PTS now smile
Nothing from my dealer about it so far. I get the feeling it's just a bloody nusiance when you ask for stuff like this. It was so easy (and inexpensive) with Audi to get a custom colour, I even ordered a car painted in a colour they'd never done before - they did a sample and said, yes it's fine. I had to jump through some hoops with Mercedes but got a nice Designo colour eventually.

With Porsche though you just get the feeling the whole UK market is a thorn in the side they could do without!

Custom colour vs Paint to sample.

Custom paint
From a range of pre-approved and validated historic and special colours. Minimum lead time: six months

Colour to sample
Highly individual, unique colour that has to be validated and approved through feasibility study. Minimum lead time: six months

Cost is either £6228 for Custom or £12,456 for Colour to Sample.

Does anyone happen to know what colours are on the "Custom Colour" list for the Taycan, I've had a good search and I can't seem to find anything published. Seeing as this is my first Porsche I'm not sure if this is vehicle specific or a standard selection of colours across the range (which would make more sense).

Answering my own question, for those that may be curious. There is no "list" of colours as such, it's so vast apparently. You just give your dealer some options or a specific colour and they let you know which category it/they fall into.

Thanks.

I've given my dealer a couple of options, he's waiting for a "list" from Porsche UK, confirmation of either of my colour choices and an idea when my slot will be for a custom colour choice.

I'll post on here when I get a response.

My understanding of this is Custom Colour is a pre approved colour that Porsche have used a number of time previously.

Paint to sample is exactly that - pure custom or free choice from any manufacturer.

I'm trying to avoid PTS and hoping to go with Custom. The price doubles for PTS. Circa £6K for custom, £12K for true PTS.

It seems everyone refers to both options as "PTS" despite the fact they are seemingly different entities?

Well since I started this thread on the day we placed orders for two of these and two deposits paid (22nd May), we still have no idea when they will arrive. Not even an indication now.

I'm still waiting for a response on the PTS colour I've requested other than "It will probably add 4 months" but as we're not sure when the car is due anyway, we're not sure when the extra "4 months" starts. It's also rather academic right now seeing as they haven't even yet confirmed if I can have PTS or which category of cost it falls into.

Then today we find out the salesman dealing with our order has left and we're not sure who our contact is going forward - "We'll get an email" was the update today.

I've never ordered a Porsche before, last time I tried it was worse than this. Is this really par for the course or am I just being a little unfortunate?

I placed a deposit on the 24th May . The dealer still doesn’t have their allocation apparently so I’m waiting to confirm the spec and get an eta .
Hopefully that will be next week when the Manager is back .
Thanks, not just us then.

We ordered through Tonbridge.

Well what a difference a day makes. It seems our weak link was the chap at the dealer that has just moved on.

Three emails exchanged this morning with our new contact and we have confirmation that the colour I chose is available at the lower cost point and we should expect a PTS build slot of January if I lock my spec in today, hopefully with a February delivery. To be confirmed - but it looks like that what's available right now.

So I'm going for this in Oak Green Metallic.

Nice spec , glad you got it sorted . Must say coms from Porsche are not great .
I dislike the process if I'm honest. It's bad enough with new cars but with used cars I just despise having to deal with the motor trade.

It was such a relief being able to order through the likes of Orange Wheels, Drive The Deal and lately CARWOW. Put in your spec and the dealers court you for a change - no hassle, no sitting in showrooms for two hours sat in a chair waiting. Just a good deal, car ordered, money paid - delivered.

My last two cars were bought via Orange Wheels, which no longer exists by the looks of it. The moment you step away from mainstream manufacturers though you're back into the game of "oliver" please sir can I spend £100K + on your product? Will you allow me to buy one?....

I guess when you have more buyers than vehicles being built you can treat all your customers like mushrooms.

I completely understand why Collecting Cars is doing so well, it removes all the saleman/dealer BS (but comes with a different set of pitfalls). You bid - you buy, that's it.

Custom colour...£6k+...MENTAL
The reality is £110,000 daily driver is mental.

Do I spend £104K and go with a second choice or spend £110K and get exactly what I want.

It'll be my third car in a custom colour. Colour is very important to me, which is why I'm happy to pay for the choice. Other specifications are more important to others, ceramic brakes for instance, which is an option I would never choose.

Carbon fibre is another, does nothing for me whatsever. It does matter to me what colour my car is painted though, to the tune of £6k it seems.

Only £8k more and you could have had a Turbo ??
With no options at all......it's still circa £20K more with a like for like spec and I'm not likely to buy one of those and not having it painted a colour I want.

As we're buying two (although my business partner has now decided on a saloon) we had to draw the line somewhere.

Anyhow, when mine arrives next year it gives me two cars to sell and combine with a bit of cash for something a bit special.

I went for the satin vesuvius paint option to get rid of all polished bit. I've never been a fan of diamond cut alloys, they just look a bit cack after 18 months to 2 years and that's if you manage not to curb them.

I went with the rear steering purely for parking and manouvering. There are several places I visit a number of times a week that have very tight parking where I struggle to park the S6. That and the surround park cameras were a must for me. I've not gone with any other chassis add ons though.
