Hi,

For those of you that have seen and heard the 296 in the flesh, any insight on the sound? On par with a 488/F8, or worse?

Also, I’m struggling to get my head around the engine bay. I can’t help thinking it looks like a Spyder with the shape of it?

The engine bay looks like that of the Dino, 308, 328 and 355. All Berlinettas.

Only heard it rev’d in the dealers. Initial impression was good but until you hear it at full chat on a track or whatever you can’t really tell.

Thanks both.

Yes, it does remind me of the 355, and others. As much as I like the 355, I did like the changes made to the rear from the 360, 430, 458, 488, and F8.

It’s a strange car. Can’t get my head around whether I like it or not… while trying to be somewhat positive for the future of supercars, which is rather bleak.

I think the engine bay looks a mess. The whole point of a glass engine cover is to show it off, instead of which you see this…

Maybe there should be an option for a louvred engine bay cover to draw a veil. I think the best looking engine compartments are the 812, the 430 and the 458. The 488 looks a bit emasculated by comparison.

So is the engine bay completely covered? It’s hard to see in most photos online.

Seriously struggling to see any similarity with the Dino, 308 and 328's engine bay, as they all had transverse engines.

And to be honest, I can only see a very, very vague resemblance to the 355's engine bay.

the engine bay looks terrible and ferrari should have offered some kind of cover to hide it as an optional extra

one thing is for sure, it's going to be rapid.

Engine bay is fugly and certainly needs a cover option that should be FOC !

Last one I saw was being pushed backwards into dealership by 4 guys as the software for reverse gear had a glitch.

This example had the expensive carbon fibre engine bay trim visible in the picture. As someone said, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear… it’s also £30k up on the F8 Tributo and with inflation and supply chain issues, you can bet there will be a price rise before the first cars land.

There’s no doubt the performance will be very good, more power than an 812 and it may sound better than say an F8 because it was designed with the need for particulate filters from the outset.

It’s more compact but I do wonder how much cabin space has been sacrificed. The F8 is spacious inside and easy to get in and out of. I passed a Huracan Spyder a few days ago and the guy inside looked folded up, like Houdini.

My reply was in response to the OP who thought that the engine bay looked a bit like that of a spider. I was merely reflecting that the flying buttress engine bays of the Dino, 308, 328 and 355 also have that look - unlike the hatchback bays of the 360, 430 etc. The OP’s reply confirms that I had interpreted his comment as it was meant.

I wasn’t referring to the actual engine layout.

I think I am probably in a minority of one but I quite like the look of the 296 engine bay. I think it looks modern and why would you expect the engine bay of a 2021 car that is a V6 turbo hybrid to look the same as a nat asp V8 designed quite a long time ago (how long depends on what model you are comparing it to)? For what it’s worth, my vote for the best looking mid engined V8 engine bay goes to the 458 but I am biased!

Agree, the whole car looks great. After I saw it in the flesh I ordered one there and then.

This is the best looking Ferrari they have released for years. If this drives as well as they claim it’s going to be a very special car. I can wait for mine to arrive.

congrats
I think it is a rather nice looking car, esp. compared to (some) recent offerings ...
