Toying with buying one but I'm getting silly quotes for insurance.

My current company, Aviva, was £400 fully comp for my Alpine but they won't quote on the Lotus.

Cheapest never heard of company on Meerkats want £600 and it swiftly goes up to the first company that I have heard of, at £1200.

63, driving since 18, full no claims, no convictions, Twickenham, parked outside, no commuting, £1000 excess, 6000 miles a year, just like my Alpine.

This was on a SH V6 manual £65,000.

Is this to be expected smile

Admiral multicar for me. Not sure exact premium but well under £300 inc business use. Was slightly cheaper than my Alpine. Surprised at the variance to the Alpine if all other things equal.

Same but mine was nearer £500+. Partly as I live close to a town centre but given that my Evora S was £330 full comp about 10 years ago, it's not to bad.

Should be possible to get a competitive Admiral quote. For context, my Exige is £370 on multicar. The Noble is only £160.

Each to their own, lots seem to go with Admiral for the cheapest price, worth considering lots also wouldn't go near them.
They do seem to have an extraordinary amount of bad reports about them compared to the other insurers, although that may be in part due to the volume of business they are doing. Either way for me, when wanting surety, I wouldn't take that risk with any of that insurance group.

Admiral are £400 for my 911. I garage mine but otherwise an almost identical profile to the OP.

Admiral are rarely the cheapest, but tend to be price proximate, especially when you have a number of cars/house combined.

I work in the business (not for Admiral) and would advocate buying based on product and cover (and specifically not the cheapest price*). Always found them good and accommodating, including a non fault claim and my desire for a main dealer repair, not one of the approved body shops. Also excellent for my 3 kids, none of which ever had to have a black box, despite the eldest moving into a modified MCS at 19.

The only "complaint" I'd have is that their preferred claim process (at least for non fault) is to push you straight to a claims management company which drives up the costs for the other insurer and which I declined.

  • Being in the industry it does rather annoy me that (generally the same people) post trying to knock a £few off their premium to get the absolute cheapest, talk about non declaration of modifications and then complain when they get an issue with the insurer, poor service and/or low settlement figures. As with most other things in life do you research (and actually read your policy!!) and buy the policy that fits your needs. The general concept of "you get what you pay for" applies to insurance as well.
