What did you find awful about the engine? I'm not a fan, but wondered what you didn't like about it
It’s a bit hard to put my finger on, but it just feels reluctant to rev. It’s as though it has a massive flywheel / rotational inertia.

The sound is pretty poor too.

The engine is limited to protect the gearbox

Whatever the reason, it’s badly matched to the car.

If I buy another in the future I think it’ll be the four cylinder version.

Re gearbox:- Komotec go to 460bhp without issue don't they?

I think without issue is a term that has a lot of stretch to it. The platform can do 430 to OEM spec as per the old cars I'm sure it will come with the Emira!

I think the engine sound is one of the best things about the car and it's plenty powerful for road use. It certainly has more character and a way better sound than the i4 version.

It's still very stifled compared to my old Exige 410, you can blame new regulations for that

The V6 external exhaust note is fine especially in track mode and the cabin sound is generally good too. Having said that the engine is relatively harsh as its a very old and unsophisticated lump which doesn't encourage spirited driving especially with the low 6800 rev limit and shortish gearing.

Reckon as a great looking weekend GT car the V6 Emira ticks most boxes but as a focused drivers car it falls short. But the looks alone appear to be enough for most buyers especially at the money.

Didn’t realise the i4 had been released, any feedback on it?

Yes this is exactly my thought. Reluctant to do much then hits the red line!

I'm also in the minority that doesn't t like the v6 exhaust. It's just far too loud and made me embarrassed to drive it, especially with the way the engine delivers its power is so underwhelming.

My Emira went today, and I was sad to see it go.

At £25 per mile it’s definitely one of my more expensive purchases, but I’m still glad I tried it.

I hope the new owner gets to use it much more than I did, and enjoys his time with it.

Mine went a few weeks ago, try calculating £ per hour driving, mine was sobering.

I’ve just taken a deposit on mine.

Driving it back home for the buyer to collect reminded me of the three things that most stood out for me in ownership.

On the drive itself the feel of the car was sublime, and the engine was awful. How I wish I’d bought the inline 4.

Back home I had a parking sequence like the 751-point turn in Austin Powers to get it into a very restricted space, and moved from disliking the manual box to hating it.
I didn’t expect that!! I assumed the v6 would be much nicer thing than the turbo 4 cylinder. What didn’t you like about it? It m just curious.

That's what owning any sportscar is like.

I’m struggling to put it into words, as it’s a very subjective thing, but it felt quite unwilling to rev, and to have too low a rev limit.

I like my engines (even turbo ones) to have a bit of a rush towards the red line, and there’s something about the throttle map / torque curve / inertia of the engine that doesn’t give this.

Overall it feels (to me) a bit like some DNA from a diesel engine has been slipped in there.

To be fair mine felt pretty tight until it had about 1500-2000 miles on it, it was properly underwhelming when I gave it its first pull at the run-in point, felt like it was 100bhp short.

Over 6k on it now with a couple of track days and, although it's never going to be a Metzger, it actually feels pretty sweet.

Initially it felt similar to my old Evora S, just a bit breathless up top, these days it feels closer to my old n/a Evora albeit with a lower rev limit.

It does feel like it needs a higher rev limit and maybe another 40-50bhp though, I'm thinking about tweaking mine.

Sometimes you can get lucky, or manage to choose something that does a bit better.

Buying new I lost £3,000 on a 997 911 GTS, and £3,000 on an SL63, each over about two years. Buying used I sold my R8 for two thousands more than I paid for it, and I think after five years in my 650s that I could get back about what it cost me.

Agree with Ken.

Rather depends on the car.

And these days it is not so much about what you can make on a car but how much you don't lose especially a relatively expensive one.
