I’ve just picked up a couple of kart frames for a stupidly cheap price. Both have issues, but nothing that can’t be resolved.

Not sure which one to use though or what brand they are.

The purple frame has had the seat brackets cut off, the guy selling them was going to use both for a bike engine build, but apart from that is pretty straight and clean.

The black one is a bit rough, missing the bars in front of the rear wheels, but has a much more sophisticated front end.

Decisions decisions.

I raced these type of karts many years ago, as did my kids (IIRC they have a number stamped and should give the year they were made) - not sure what engines you intend to bolt on them or what you intend to use them for but in all honesty....they are just a few bits of old metal and I wouldn't use them for anything other than scrap.

I’m going to bolt a 100cc National motor to them and have a laugh with them!

They need work, and will be stripped back to bare metal and powder coated. But scrap? Give a rest.

biggrin

You checked if chassis are bent? They look bent to me. Turn steering and see if wheels lift on opposite rear etc

My money on them being at least 30 years old...........I raced 100 National and the black one looks older than what I raced (Deavinson Sprint was my 1st) late 80's

Simon will tell you exactly what it is if you find the Chassis number

Hard to tell with the black one, it has no rear axle. But like I said, I checked the purple one and it’s straight.

Is Simon still going? Used to use him in the early 90’s when I had a Zip with a 100cc TKM on it

SWRD I think.............the purple one looks more like a Deavinson but given there's no sidepods (or sign of fixings) its probably pre-90's - Zip was Martin Hines and both were based at near Hoddesdon them days IIRC

FWIW for several years I used to buy and refurb old karts or strip and sell the parts - the black looks older than the purple to me because of the front wheel assembley. Try to find the CIK numbers as that may help?

As an aside my oldest child raced a Zip with a TKM BT82 in junior races I had a Rotax...Castrol R cloud9

Martin Hines went on to acquire GPR direct in 2009 before passing away in 2011 (cancer, iirc). He was a lovely guy who helped many junior drivers (and some not-so-junior drivers, including me).

There are a few series kicking about for vintage karts. F100's pretty popular: https://f100uk.co.uk/
