Sports exhaust or sound pipe upgrade

Hi everyone,

I am new here. I’m in the market for a second hand A110 and have found one which has all my specs, except the sports exhaust.

Is it possible to retrofit an exhaust or, failing that, just the sound pipe?

I’ve seen lots of threads suggesting a new exhaust is possible, but no-one saying they have done it. Also I’m unclear whether you can just retrofit the sound pipe.

I did see a post from Life110 saying that the bits for the sound pipe could be bought separately for (I think) £800 and something. Fitting the bits looks easy, but I'm not aware if any ECU reprogramming is needed. You'll find lots of differing opinions about the merits of the sound pipe and/or sports exhaust. Personally (having a PE with both) the sound pipe without the sports exhaust would be my choice. Plenty of others would take a different view so you really need to listen to a car with the sports exhaust to make up your mind.

The valve for the sports exhaust is electronically operated, so I don't think it can be retrofitted easily.

As mentioned you can retrofit the sound pipe easily, it's just a few jubilee clips and a couple of nuts for the resonator to fit to the firewall.

My car has the sports exhaust but for some reason not the sound tube, so ordered for parts from Alpine for around £450 and fitted it myself. It’s quite straightforward once you work out how the retaining clips work, you also need to remove the fixing bolts for the Intercooler to give the movement required to slip the tubes off, plus swap over the air flow sensor.

It’s makes it big difference in the induction sound you hear as it literally being piped in from the throttle body, you get a lovely bark when you open the throttle. The exhaust is quiet even with the valve open, blame the GPF for the that.

Search for Intercooler pipes on eBay and you’ll find a sound tube for sale. It’s a different colour to mine, I got the dealer to match the required parts to the VIN number of a car that’s same age as mine to be sure that it fitted

Were I ordering again if have the resonator/sound pipe, but kit the sports exhaust. Gurgle but no pops then.
