Hi all,

I'm currently looking to buy an Alpine very soon, and would like some help with my exhaust situation. Ideally I would want one with the Sports Exhaust as all of the demos I have tested have had it equipped and I love the sound. However, I have the opportunity to get a great one without it equipped. I understand the stock exhaust in not valved, so I can't go and put on something like the Milltek system as that requires it to function. Instead, I have been looking at ones with a key fob remote as this is a compromise I am willing to accept (I would put a link here but I can't due to having a new account). However, I am unsure how I would wire up the 12V for the valve control as there isn't anything already in place on the ones without the Sports Exhaust? Or, if there is a better solution feel free to let me know smile.

Not answering your question directly, but I have been told there is an intake noise generator that is included on cars with the sports exhaust, and that is quite hard to retrofit.

So you may find just an aftermarket exhaust doesn’t replicate the sound you’ve experienced with the standard sports exhaust.

Thanks,
Tim

Thank you for the reply, I also know about the sound pipes, which is a whole other thing. I have been told it is roughly £350 to source the parts, and maybe an hour job to fit it, so I am not too worried about that. Just trying to figure out the exhaust itself ha.

Why do you want a valved exhaust anyway? It's not a Lambo with a V10 reving 9000 RPM. If u keep the revs below 3000 RPM when cruising through town a valved exhaust presents no real benefit.
And as already said, that strange sound pipe amplifies the pops and bangs inside the cabin more than the sports exhaust itself. Propably that's what u heard during your test drives.

I bought my car used and it came with sport exhaust but for some reason the sound resonator was not fitted/removed. Ordered the parts from the dealer and fitted in 15 mins. This has made the biggest difference to the sound you hear when driving the car. Its basically taking the intake sound from the throttle body straight to the cabin, its a lovely bark when you open the throttle. This louder than the exhaust and a better sound in my view.
