Aluminium Oxidation/Corrosion

I picked up a lot of dirt today and noticed the areas where dirt has adhered is exactly where many people have had the dreaded aluminium oxide forming underneath their paintwork.

I can't help but now think this is not only due to a possible factory process, but at least in part due to dirt damaging the paint allowing contamination through and then the aluminium starts oxidizing underneath.

I will personally be looking into spot PPF protection around prone areas (edges of arches, rear quarter, air intakes etc) as the cost of whole car protection is too prohibitive and often uses templates which do not go around the edges.

If anyone has any ingenius ideas of how to protect these areas it could save us all a lot of trouble.
