There are two red circles on the Sport dashboard, just below the Nm and Hg mini-dials; sometimes they have a black square inside them, and sometimes a second, grey, square appears beside them. I think they show something gearbox-related: that a gear has been preselected, perhaps?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The red circles (dots) are revs - one dot (each side) indicates 1000 revs, 2, 2000 revs etc. The square changes to indicate whether you should (?) change up or down when in manual. Useless gimic in my view.

I'm glad someone asked. The sport dash is utterly baffling what it's trying to tell you with dots flashing and moving. I gave up trying to work out what triggered them to do what they do.

Thanks for the explanation: Mrs L was driving yesterday and asked what they were. I think she found them an unnecessary distraction!

One thing I’ve said from the outset is I’d prefer the normal dash display even when sport is engaged.

Imo the only merit of the Sport display is water temperature. I'm not interested in power or torque, silly rev dots or whether I ought to change gear, but oil temperature would be (much!) more useful. Personally don't need an analogue speed display either, so there is a lot of display real estate available for info otherwise selectable for display on the left centre of the panel.

I am trying to find out what red dots this topic is about. I have been watching the sport dashboard all day yesterday (while touring Bavarian B-roads, so I did not exactly waste my day), but I could not find any of these dots. Is this something that disappeared in the MY22 cars?

Maybe so: mine is a 2022 Legende pre digital face-lift (ie MySpin phone connectivity). Perhaps the digital dashboard got reworked at the same time. The dots are visible here:

This feature might have been removed on cars from 2022 onwards since also I haven't seen those dots on my 2022 car with updated Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. I drive on Sport mode almost always.
