“Gearbox failure error “

Went out for a blast today - I had only trundled 2 mins down the road, stopped to pass a parked car and this flashed up on the display- no gears.
I stopped and started the car again, released the handbrake and all appeared ok- I’m afraid I simply turned the car around and headed straight back home- couldn’t afford to be stuck by the side of the road for the rest of the day.
I’ll get the car booked in but wondered if anybody else had experienced this?

This happened to me last night. Car was two miles from home and still relatively cold.

My fault cleared after a couple of hours, but will to in for a diagnostic (next week hopefully).

What was the outcome for you?

Took car in and had it diagnosed but no fault reported. Touch wood it hasn’t played up again since then.

Not sure this is relevant, but when battery voltage is low my car reports spurious errors. In my case, even when the car has started it sometimes reports "card key not detected" or "card key battery low" - errors which disappear once the car battery is charged. I have had a gearbox error reported - but that was when the car started OK, but the alternator had failed.
