I almost never use my frunk, but just opened it today after a long time. Unfortunately the lid was full of oil in the front area. The oil seems to be coming from the two front bumpers ob which the lid rests. The plastic covering has a whole next to the bumper and this seems where the oil came from. I cleaned it now and had a longer drive without the oil returning. Also the bottom seems to be dry, but thats hard to judge since its completely closed. I guess the oil is coming from the cooler, but is that a known problem?

Okay, now it gets mysterious. I just removed the plastic frunk part and there is no trace of oil anywhere below the plastic. I am starting to think somebody may have „injected“ oil there on purpose :-/ Those car haters (germany) are getting creative it seems…

When you say lid, do you mean there was oil at the front of the bonnet?

I've had a look at the design of the front of the car and it looks like you only have brake fluid, screenwash, fuel and A/C compressor oil as possible liquids. Or coolant leaking from your radiator/hoses. I would make sure your coolant, brake fluid and screenwash caps are secure and the levels are topped up.

Yes, sorry i meant bonnet (not a native speaker). It was definitely brown oil, i had several petrolheads around me to confirm. There were also no traces from below, which really make me think some sick mind must have injected it with a syringe. But hey, at least better than keying the car.

But i have my first service in two weeks anyways, so i let them check as well.

Lol, heres the solution if anyones still interested:
It was not oil, but cavity sealing wax that dripped out the two holes in the lid during the heat :-)

I just wonder, why I never read about this in any Alpine Owners Group? Am I the only one who had this experience? I mean i bought a 4 months old demo car. I would be suprised if the dealership did an additional cavity sealing for a demo car?

Are you possibly missing some grommets that should shut those holes off?

Good point. Do you have any grommets in your lid? Especially the two holes in the very front of the lid?
I‘ll try to take a picture later…

My car’s in the garage where I can’t easily open the frunk. If no-one else steps forward to answer I’ll do that later in the week.

Mine are the same (22 GT), no grommets, but are clean. No sign of black mastic anywhere! Very strange.

Is there any chance this a factory sprayed corrosion inhibitor oozing from the pressings on the bonnet lid?

Jupp, it pretty sure is. I was just wondering that I seem to be the only one having this problem. It happened on a quite hot day during an autocross session in Hockenheim. Maybe the combination of heat and crazy driving triggered it.

PS: The car is a 05/22 german registration and i bought it as an ex demo car.
