I pick my new AA110 next week. Im fancying a bit of personalisation by way of some colour in the seat belts. I wondered if anyone has already done this, how easy it is to remove the belts and suggestions for a good supplier. I have found a company in Nottingham who have a good website.

Any thoughts

Is that maybe a bit risky in terms of the warranty & insurance etc?

(Changing something that might save your life because of its colour sounds a bit extreme to me...but then I am an old fart hehe)

I was considering also going gold to match wheels, looking at where belt attaches to seat on comfort seats doesn't seem easy to remove.
Bolt appears to be only accessible if seat is removed 🙄

If you are changing something like for like then I don't see a problem. Its not like he is going to be replacing it with cheese wire.

How do you know? hehe

You’re probably right thumbup I’ve spent my whole career mitigating risk and it’s made me a bit paranoid

But, I was also thinking these cars are notorious for electrical faults. Messing with the belts might give the manufacturer the opportunity to shirk their responsibilities.

Plus, it might be a declared modification for insurance purposes.

I was thinking it might be a lot of risk for little reward.

But, as I said, that’s just me hehe

Lotus don't offer seat belt colour options on the Emira because each colour needs to be crash tested and it's too expensive.

I would think twice about this. Especially as UV deterioration is a real thing and the reason why FIA race harnesses have a 5 year life.

If you are determined, I'd suggest contacting Quickfit (not the High Street exhaust people); they did a great job supplying replacement belts for my classic.

Do you think I should replace the seat belts in my 1992 BMW?

It’s actually something I’d never considered to be an issue. But I now remember that when the place I was working was running climbing wall sessions the harnesses would be replaced every 5 years or when damaged. They’re not a massively different thing to seatbelts

Had a chat with an Alpine dealer as we were originally looking at an A110 Pure in Orange and would have wanted to change the belts to the same orange as the S.

They certainly said it was something they could do (as they could order the Orange belt from an existing Orange S they had).

Don't know the cost as we did not explore any further as ended up getting a Pearlescent White S.

changing seatbelts is never cheap. Doubt it's be much less than 1-1.5k for 2 belts fitted. I looked at it a few times with bmw and porsche but the pricing was far from what i imagined.

There are plenty of companies out there who offer the service. They all seem charge around £80 a belt

Indeed. I'm a regular frequenter of the Alpine section here and weep at some of the posts.

Yes that’s right but that doesn’t include removal and refit. It’s not a big job nowhere near £1000 but I’ve only done it on older cars.

They are very different because a harness is taking weight and a seat belt does not. There are only two instances where you need to change your seatbelts for safety reasons -

1) if they are damaged, freyed, cut or any other physical defect that would impact their effectiveness
2) after an accident where the pre-tensioners have activated and / or there is damage as above

I was confused rather than offended. I know there was the alternator issue, but I hadn't noticed any others.
