Thinking about buying one

My weekend car is a Morgan, it's a lovely car if you can get over the Morgan ride quality. However, ever since the Alpine came out I've lusted after one, this lust was originally driven by seeing a photo of my dad who used to work for Renault driving one of the original cars, apparently I went in it is a 3 year old but I have no memory of it, or photo!

Unfortunately I can't afford a new one, even a base model, so I'm looking at 18 or 19 plate version, as with this type of car quality rather than age will drive my purchase but I was wondering what pitfalls over and above the ones below I should be on the look out for when looking at them:

Battery
Fuel Pump
Alternator

A few other things to look out for:

Corrosion around the rear wheel arches
Cracked windscreen
Rubber coming away from engine cover

None of the above should be show stoppers and May still be covered by warranty if it’s been extended.

I purchased a 2018 P.E. Dec 2020 with just under 3K miles, obviously in immaculate condition, it's now done 12.6K and my daily driver.
The P.E. comes with all the toys, ok not android auto but that has not been a problem at all, it's a wonderful driver's car; it's agility takes me back to my series 2 Elise R but with added comfort and luxury.
Upgrades to the suspension; Life lowering springs and geometry settings make a huge difference not only to the handling but aesthetically and their remap takes the car to another level.
Reliability problems, in my opinion have been exaggerated, I had more problems with my last Porsche and I won't mention about the interior of my first generation Evora.
I had an alternator failure last October, which was replaced under warranty and took one month for the parts, of course driving the car to a safe area helped kill the battery. I had an abs dash warning but a software update fixed that.
I also had the rear window seal start to lift but I decided to fix that myself with Gorilla clear adhesive and held it in place using wooden pegs.
So far the car has no hint of any rust appearing and still looks fantastic in pearl White and boy does it attract attention, in a complimentary way.
I can't sing it's praises enough and I'm sure you'll love it. I live in the Midlands if you want a look or a chat.

buy one, you wont regret it. If you get a used one from a dealer they will give you warranty and warranty can be extended if at the end of manufacturers warranty....

This !! Save a good few £k buying used, get a warranty, extend warranty when it runs out… drive the pants off it and enjoy

I will look out for the points raised, and also try not to raise any points on my licence!

First things first though, I've got a Morgan Roadster that I need to sell, or trade in if a dealer will take such a car.

I know that the "points on your licence" quote was said tongue in cheek - but there is a serious point to be made - you don't have to go at silly speeds to have fun in an A110. That is where the A110 scores over rivals like the Cayman.

How slow are they depreciating at the moment?

Anyone have one in North London who wouldn’t mind showing me there’s?

I love the V6 sound, I love the way it looks, I love the way it goes, 0-60 is about 4.5s mid range overtaking is rapid. However after 10 years of top down motoring I want a lid and even though mine has uprated suspension with adjustable springs and rear coil spring conversion it still rides very much like a Morgan.

Anyway it looks like my dream is over before it begins as talking to every Morgan dealer they're not buying at the moment as they can't shift their current stock, and Alpine dealers won't touch them with a bargepole.

I’d agree. Though obviously past results don’t guarantee this will continue to be the case, I didn’t think twice about ordering a new one with my exact spec.

Given that they look to be stopping production of the petrol cars next year, I’d suggest any of the updated MY22/23/24 to be most desirable in years to come, probably only eclipsed by the special editions.
