Screen cracked on Sunday following a stone strike some time before.

Autoglass will be here today.

I’m hoping there will be no problem with a dodgy screen as I’m expecting them to be using a genuine alpine one ( not sure there will be any third party options around) but please can those with experience of new screens let me know what to expect?

How do they get old screen out? What do I need to watch out for? Do they protect the dash/bonnet/ should they be using a hammer???!!!

What are the usual “mistakes” - too much sealant around glass etc??
Many thanks

Autoglass (N Herts) replaced mine after stone damage in July.
A Fuyao screen was used (huge OEM supplier).
Its fit is fine.
Simple job, with usual looped wire cutter for old screen.....it's just a car!!
Tool is something like this.....

No hammers should be involved! They cut a bonded screen out with one of these:

They should be very neat with the new sealant too. Main piece of advice would be to ensure the car is on flat ground before the new screen goes in, and to leave it to cure for as long as possible before driving.

Fuyao may well be OEM for a handful of car manufacturers, but they'll always be known as a budget brand.

@Hoofty - Autoslags techs are not allowed to use a 'Kent Cut-Out Knife' anymore. Plus, the curing mechanisms on PUR adhesives these days are very short which allow an almost immediate Safe Drive Away Time [SDAT]. 30 mins from first extrusion on average.

The (integral) antenna is connected behind the rear view mirror. An experienced tech should be able to deal with that part of it as the mirror is a Renault fitment.

Best results are achieved by a full strip down: wiper cowl, A-Pillar covers (inside).

Appreciate the update (to my antiquated knowledge) - thanks! smile

,,...... question for Glassman on related topic.
Do you know if wiring for an autodip mirror is in the loom in the mirror shroud of an A110?
Would like to fit an autodip on mine as it did not have the Mirror Pack.
Thanks.

PS: Fuyao are OEM suppliers to many major brands globally, including premium brands.

My statement still stands: budget brand. Throw a bit of money at employing the best staff from your competitors... Yes, they have to meet a criteria - and they do - what you don't see is the stuff that doesn't meet that criteria.

Re: wiring. Don't know for sure but there is usually a spare multiplug in there (on models not equipped with mirror pack). My guess would be that the harness has the same loom extension on it. They wouldn't spec a harness to a car for that, surely? You could flick the cowl off the mirror and have a look if there's an errant plug in there.

Thanks all- it’s in - need to reattach my camera and tags but I’ve left it parked up since the fitting yesterday afternoon. Will take it for a spin later and, hopefully, no squeaks…
