Looking awesome!

The brand will unveil a radical new version of its A110 sports coupé in Japan during the Suzuka F1 Grand Prix weekend.

R FOR "RADICAL"

It is the highly anticipated version that will complete the A110 range. An extreme version. Lighter. Sharper. And even more inspired by motor racing. In a word, more "radical" to top the A110 range. The ultimate expression of lightness and performance, the new Alpine A110 R is designed for unique feelings on the racetrack while remaining road legal.

This new model will be unveiled on Tuesday, 4 October at 12.30 pm, followed by its European premiere at the Paris Motor Show 2022 from 17 October onwards.

I hope they haven't used the Porsche con of taking out the aircon and infotainment to get the headline weight and then make them a no cost option (which everyone specifies) 34kg is a lot on a car that is already light. To be fair to Alpine, they have (unlike some) been very honest about weights.

20mm lower ON TRACK is interesting - adjustable spring platform?

I wouldn't personally be keen on carbon wheels on a road car, and I would hope cup 2s are an option. I'm not a likely buyer, but it's good to see some serious development has been done.

I hope the door pulls aren't like the silly things Porsche do on their "light" models!

At this price it’s knocking on the door of the A110 cup model which would surely be a better buy for track work.

True but that's not road legal - or that road suitable. While it looks like the R will compromised as a road car (as a GT4 Porsche is), it will still have a fair bit of usability.

It’s just that this is going to be 400kg lighter than a cayman gt4. In line 4 notwithstanding its amazing but so is the cooking version.
Ultimately if you are not intending to track it, the almost 50% cheaper base version is a much better buy. Real world speed is more governed by legal speeds and driver skill.

What do we know about the new A110R?

Well the recent teaser video shared on social media suggests power may remain unchanged. The digital instrument cluster shows >300 hp in the upper-right corner and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) on the left side. There is also no mention of output on the leaked technical specs. Original early reports started up to 360bhp but nothing was ever confirmed and engine spec has remained a closely guarded secret. It seems this is because there be may no changes from the 2022 A110s. What we do know is that 177mph and 0-60 3.9s should not possible with a weight reduction alone but possibly with changes to gear ratios. A little more power too wouldn’t hurt and >300 still possibly indicates over 300bhp, we will have to wait and see.

Extensive use of real carbon throughout for significant weight reduction. Bonnet with vents, roof, seat shells, diffuser, engine cover, revised spoiler, splitter and wheels. The bonnet design looks similar to the GT4 car. Some 34kg weight reduction in the A110R overall.

The rear spoiler is not the same as the one in the regular Aero pack. It’s a unique design for the A110R.

The suspension has been lowered and uprated. A reduction of up to 20mm “on track” in the tech specs suggests that the dampers may be height adjustable for track and road although there is no indication of this on the technical drawings. The dampers do have definitely separate reservoirs and we expect these to have adjusters for bump and/or rebound.

There is no new information regarding the braking system so would assume this remains the same as the A110S perhaps with a revised compound.

The wheels will be carbon and aero design. It is unclear from the tech specs and drawings whether there are two design options or that the wheel styles are different front and rear for aero purposes. The tyres will be Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Cup, essentially a street legal track day tyre with huge grip.

The interior is race inspired with the microfiber pack and red fabric door pulls. Expect those to be similar to those seen recently on the Turbo 3E. Seats are exclusive Sabelt buckets, carbon shell with 6 point race harnesses.

Telemetrics are standard, Focal audio is retained and hopefully carplay remains and that the earlier infotainment is not used for weight saving.

There is no information regarding air conditioning. Hopefully this has been retained and not removed as part of the weight saving package.

There will be a numbered dash plaque of the design previously posted on here. It is unclear whether the image of the car on the plaque will be the usual Alpine silhouette flowing outline or specific to the A110R.

The rear badge design confronted is as per the technical drawing above. The regular Alpine font with the addition of an “R” with a slight right inclination. The colour of the letters is unknown but it wouldn’t be a surprise if the R was red.

There will be a new unique shade of blue “Alpine Racing Blue” available as a cost option. This may be the same colour as seen on the GT4 cars. It is unknown whether the full regular palette and Atelier colours will be a available but it is understood that white will be a no cost option.

The list price will start at €101k euro without options. If a market rate exchange is applied that will equate to just over £90k gbp. But don’t be surprised if the UK price is closer the the Euro price pounds for euros.

Order books aren’t officially open yet but dealers will take a deposit of £2k to secure your place on the wait list. Expect delivery around March 2023 if you get in early.

Should be an awesome car.

It's been said elsewhere that there are already more expressions of interest than there are allocated RHD cars. If so I would hope that Alpine would just make more cars. I wouldn't like to see the Porsche situation where there are "halo" cars for "special" customers expecting overs on resale.

Alpine are, to a degree, playing this game with limited editions and special colours - but I don't think that distorts the market in a real way. Artificially limiting R production would be a different situation. Let's be honest there is only a modest (real) market for cars such as the R (or GT4 Porsche) - Alpine should, by all means, tap into it - but not, in doing so, demote most of their customers to the second division.

I recently spec a 110s with minimal comfort options, microfibre pack, aerokit to 70k.so it is not at all crazy at 90k with the carbon and real weight loss and more to come with a lithium battery. It’s a gt4 jump to gt4rs. If u can get one at list 113k. But at 100k for the a110R, this would clearly be for die hards only. Like I always said, pricing it on paper near equivalent Porsche list prices is simply bad marketing because the optics just turn people off


Way more special at 1 ton though

I also heard that the new blue is that of the f1 cars. Wonder how much it would cost.

my feeling is moving up the price range by going hardcore but still having the same dct is a mistake. It isn’t a pdk. there isnt a manual option for those that know it isn't a pdk. The engine is being held back, it is still lower stressed than the best megane production models. I do not think it can be compared to any porsche RS model.

True. Engine is inferior to any Porsche gt model
Hence pricing shouldn’t be on par is my thinking even if chassis and lightweight is the usp

I’d say Max 90k pounds and likely high 80s

Personally prefer the box to PDK (having had a 981 Cayman previously). Sure it's not quite as smooth but the ratios are so MUCH better.

At the advertised prices I'd have to agree the R looks pricey - but the real cost of a GT4 has never been even close to the advertised price (though I do hear that Porsche have built too many and ordinary mortels can, for the moment, buy one).
