After a couple of years of trying to work out why my PE plays music from SD card sometime but then refuse to play when I change the music on the card, I may have finally found the solution
For info when it worked fine all was as expected, but at times when I have added or replaced tracks the system will show message that device does not contain media, or in the worst case reboot every minute or 2.
I have gone through the tracks and deleted anything not mp3 (deleted all mp4 and flac files). I have also deleted all lyrics files that some online services save with the tracks. Not sure if these made any difference or not
Started to try building up slowly and seeing if I could find an album or track that was corrupted.
During this I noticed that at some point during copying from my android tablet to the SD card a rogue folder would be written LOST.DIR
According to a Web search lost.dir is safe and basically a kind of windows style recycle bin.
Anyway, the full SD card of music that hadn't played a few hours before (exactly the same tracks, etc) was recopied to the card and after it had finished I found and deleted the lost.dir folder and hey presto the PE happily played the card without issue.

Not sure if this is the total answer to the issue but at the moment it seems to be working well. So if you have strange SD card not reading issues check for LOST.DIR folder if you transferred from android, and delete it

Good luck
